My husband recently applied for the Target Visa and was approved right away and we planned on using the card on a vacation we were taking. We had trouble with being overcharged by Budget Car Rental and they charged our card so much that it almost maxed out the account. We called Retailers right away to let them know that the charge was not right and basically we were screwed because we only had a certain amount for hotel car and spending money. We had to use our cash for the hotel since the card was maxed.

It has been 7 days today and the account is still frozen and we called Budget corporate office and with us on the line, they called the bank to tell them to release the funds back onto the card. Retailers said "NO, they could not do that until it dropped off by itself." Even with the merchant on the phone saying that the charge was an error, they refused to change it!!! We are mailing a check to pay for the tiny bit we actually owe, as well as the card all cut up, and telling them to not send us offers anymore for their card.

Live and learn. Obviously they don't care at all about their customers, and definitely have no concern for customers who are stranded and need help desperately. Next time we will go with American Express. THey will automatically extend you credit until things get squared away. DO NOT APPLY FOR A TARGET VISA!! THEY WILL SCREW YOU!

AMEX cards DO have limit.....

#2Consumer Suggestion

Fri, July 19, 2002

Before you apply for an AMEX card, check their Terms. Contrary the popular belief, AMEX cards DO have limit. It is invisible, you cannot see it on your statements, but you can ask about it the consumer service. They have the right to change your limit, to increase OR decrease without notifying you. There are many complains on the Net from people who first heard about their lowered credit, when their card was rejected. It is better to have a backup card, that you can use in this kind of situation. (There are many card offers with no annual fee.)
