Approx. 5 years ago we build a custom home in Breckenridge Colorado. We hired Harris Construction as our GC. They build an amazing home with superior quality. There was one large error made, they bought the wood for the siding at Rocky Mountain Forest Products, from Wheat Ridge Colorado. When it was installled all looked great, Within the first year sap started oozing out all over our new home. We called Harris Constructon right away, within the first 8 months. He called Michael Hoefer, the son of the owner, his salesperson. Michael did come out and looked at it and asked us to wait till the winter had come and gone, and in the spring he wanted Harris Construction to scrape, sand and restain the wood. He said by then the wood would be totally dried.  We did order kiln dried wood, which we did pay for.

When spring came Harris Construction did what they were instructed to do. Looked OK, not the best, but a whole lot nicer. By the time winter rolled around the stain all came off and now the chinking was separting from the sap on the wood. I had to pay a chinking company to come and rechink alot of the wood and that cost me $2000.00. Mike then said to repeat the process the following spring, which Harris did do. Same results. One of the painters had told me that once the wood was stained and the sap started oozing out, it would never hold stain.

The last several years we have been avoided, the wood is now twisting, oozing, and generally ugly. The new chinking is separating again. Michael Hoefer, stalled us for around 5 years, trying his remedies and eating up time. Now I turned it into the BBB of Colorado, he states he was just notified of the problem this year and that they do not keep records that long ago, wonder why?? He keeps telling me to go to Harris Construction, not him. Harris states the reverse. All we know is that we paid for good wood and was sold green wood. Harris Construction has done everything Rocky Mountain Forest Products has asked them to do, without any financial help from them. This is bad business, none of us like to see problems happen, but when they do, companies who profitted from them must step up and do the right thing and stand behind their products. Right now, we have to remove all the siding from the home, buy new siding, pay for installation, painting and chinking. Approx cost, $70,000.00.

This is a company people should be very leary of, salesperson is not telling truth to BBB and they do not stand behind products.  When I left Breckenridge this summer I was told by Tony Harris that Michael Hoefer just wanted to do whatever it took to get this problem resolved, now that it is time to put up he is backing down again. Michael actually stood in my driveway approx 4 years ago and said the wood was bad, but thought his remedies would work. Now the company says it was to long ago. I tried talking with him several times, he was always very short and rude to me, stating I must contact the GC. Then when I do that the GC states Michael is holding it all up, not wanting to accept the responsibility. I tried, did not want to write this letter, but Michaels cocky attitude is just not going to make me go away. I paid good money for all this and want what I paid for.....period. This company, as of this date, has not and will states it will not fix this problem. Consumers beware, they will not stand behind their products.

Screwed Again

Rocky Mountain Forest screwed us again. They finally agreed after 6 years that they would replace the wood they sold us. They agreed to send 3000 feet of new wood, well when it showed up, GC opened the loads and was only able to use 507 feet of it. GC states the rest of wood was not acceptable to put on home. So here we are again. Do yourself a favor and dont let our GC order from this company. They could care less what happens after they get their money. They are selling crap wood at high prices. Here we are, house partially done, we have to pay someone to paint it and rechink it, as chinking keeps pulling away from the sap.
