After receiving a recommendation, I purchased a ROWENTA Effective Iron at Target. I rarely iron clothing, simply because my husband and I are jean and t-shirt people. The only time that I iron clothes is for interviews, or if my husband is wearing a button-up shirt.

I specifically bought the ROWENTA, because I had heard from a friend that she inherited a ROWENTA from her mother. The product is supposed to last forever, and can supposedly withstand a drop on the carpet. This is not the case.

I dont know if the ROWENTA products of our mother's time, were from a different manufacturer. I don't know if ROWENTA of Germany sold the company to this place in Milville NJ, but I used my ROWENTA EFFECTIVE Steam Iron only five times, in four months, and now it will not turn on. It was stored on a shelf, in my appliance closet.

I did not save my box, or my receipt, because I honestly, truly thought that I would be willing this iron out to my kids. Target has a 90 day return policy, so they refused to return it. I then called the ROWENTA customer service, and spoke with an agent, who advised me to get online and read the troubleshooting guides. I went online, just like I was told, and looked up the troubleshooting guide for ROWENTA EFFECTIVE Irons. When the iron doesn't heat up, the Troubleshooting guide stated, "- Make sure the iron is firmly plugged into the outlet and that the outlet works correctly.
- Check that the thermostat dial is set to one of the fabric settings.
- Auto-off may be activated, gently move the iron to switch it on again. "

Like an idiot, I went around, and tried plugging in the iron to EVERY outlet in my home. I tried 'Gently Shaking,' the iron. The first thing I did was check the thermostat. Nothing works. I had to run to the store, and purchase a cheap $8.00 Black and Decker Iron, and I must say that it works a d**n sight better than the ROWENTA EFFECTIVE, which I paid $70.00 for.

I tried calling back ROWENTA. I told another Customer Service Rep what was going on. I'll admit, I was a little frustrated, when I spoke with her, but anyone would be a little upset at wasting $70.00. She said that I could deliver my product to one of their servicers, at my expense... MY EXPENSE? This iron has only been used a few times. I honestly didn't believe what I was hearing. There was NO sympathy, and POOR customer service. ROWENTA, you should be ASHAMED!

With the economy the way it is, a $70.00 purchase in a middle-class home is a bid deal. I cannot believe that after only a few months, your company told me to pay more money, to have it repaired. I have already paid enough, Thanks.

TO ALL CONSUMERS, IN NEED OF A STEAM IRON: If you are just looking to get the wrinkles out of clothes, go to Krogers/Fred Meyer, and get yourself the $8.00 Black and Decker. It may not be as pretty as the ROWENTA EFFECTIVE, but it will save you $62.00, and heat up every time you plug it in. YOUR ROWENTA WILL BREAK!

ROWENTA, I will NEVER BUY anything made by your company again. Here's a tip: Try to train your call center employees on their customer service skills!
