Rubin & Rothman Ripoff, harrassment Islandia New York
I have been dealing with Rubin & Rothman, LLC for the past three to four years. They have continued to harrass through phone calls and mailings over a $300 credit card debit that has now escalated to the amount of $1,602.79.
Over two years ago when they called I would tell them I believe the bill had been paid off, two years prior. However, I did not have any cancelled checks as my husband and I a seperated and many of my financial papers had been destroyed by him.
At the time they started harassing I was only receiving, and still am, social security disability, trying to raise three boys on my own with no child support and I did not have this type of money.
They continued to sending threating letter and harassing and threatening phone calls, which demanded the money in full of they were going to place a judgement against me. I again told them what my income and situation was. At that time they sent me all sorts of forms to fill out to show hardship, income, debits and etc.
I filled out all the paper work, sent copies of my income what I was spending on a monthly basis. After that I did not hear anything for a few months. No acknowledgment of receiving the paper work. nothing!
Aprox. one year later I again started receiveing letters from Rubin a& Rothman, LLC stating that they had knowledge that I was working and that the money needs to be paid in full or they were going to place a judgement against me. I have been unable to work since 1997.
I told them I was not working through several phone calls and mainlings and that I knew they could not garnish my social security. I also told them I didn't even make enough to support my family without a little assist of social services, food stamps and medical).
Last week I received a letter stating they had filed a judgement against me for $1,602.75. The signature is only initals which looks like SB, which could possibly be Stuart Babitch, at least that is the only name among many listed whose initals are SB.
Actually none of the mainling that I have received from this company even look official.
I do not know if there is anything anyone can do but I am really getting upset with this continual harassment and threatening letters. These people are ruthless, uncaring, and I am not sure they are even real.

Only a court can file a judgement against you and not the collection agency. Have you been served a summons regarding this civil matter? If not, they are just blow smoke up your you know what.

Well Praise the Lord and pass the ammunitation! I wrote this morning about my experience and low and behold guess who just called, Rubin & Rothman. I spoke with a Kathy who was actually very nice, even though I was rather not. I told them two years ago I sent in all the paper work they requested and all my finances for several months. I had three boys, no child support and was living on $800 a month. Low and behold she found where I had sent everything in Sept. 15, 2003 and said this matter should have been taken care of (BY THEM) a long time ago. That I was not avoiding them that I had called and talked to them and responding to their requests. She is supose to be passing it on to the proper people and have it taken care of. Here's HOPING!!
