Ryan NVR Homes Builds inferior homes with inferior materials Reston Virginia
We have been living for 10 years in the Ryan home we had built in Woodbridge, Va. Over the years we have had a persistent leak in the big arched window over our front door. We continually tried to find where the leak was and would seal anything that looked suspicious. This weekend we were preparing to paint all the outside trim on the house. As our painter inspected the wood used for the trim he discovered some rot in the piece between the large window and the front door. My husband started chipping at it to see how extensive it was. We found that the entire section between the window and door was completely rotted out and dripping wet. We hired a professional to come out and cut the rotted wood out and replace it. The contractor we hired said that the window was not installed properly. The builder should have used plastic sheathing underneath the window to direct the water out should there be a leak. He also saw that the wood was not pressure treated which added to its lack of durability. Today, after looking at the wood framing around the door we are finding more rot. It looks like we will have to replace the entire front door unit, sidelights and all. Before buying this Ryan home we had lived in a 30 year old home in Springfield, Va. We never had these kinds of problems with wood rot there. So, the moral of this story is buyer beware. DO NOT buy a Ryan home. They are cheap and fall apart fast.
