I attended school at Sanford Brown Institute in Trevose, PA, for about 3 yrs. I first went for Medical Assisting and then Ultrasound. I did not want to go to school for Medical Assisting but they insisted that was the only way to get into the Ultrasound program, at any school. I really wanted to join for ultrasound so i agreed to do the Medical Assisting immediately after I graduated high school.

Towards the end of my Medical Assisting program, I started to sign up for the Ultrasound program. The admissions rep informed me that I would have to get 16 more credits from another school, like the community college, I was not informed that when i signed up for the M.A. program; However I still went ahead and did that. I was allowed to take any courses I wanted, I had taken yoga and tai chi (unrelated courses).

Then they informed me that I would have to wait 6 months to get into the program, when I was previous guaranteed a spot right away, since I did the M.A program there. If i was informed prior about the issues I could have taken my 16 credits while doing the M.A. program, so I didn't have to wait. They tried to put me in the other ultrasound program (cardiovascular) that i did not want to take, and said I would not have to wait for that program.

I enjoyed their ultrasound program, however there were a lot of problems. Our lab where we dealt with patients did not have a sink to wash our hands. We also performed tests where we had to hold our bladder and did not have a bathroom close to our lab, it was on the other side of the school.

We had also had incompetent teachers for some classes; One in which was our math teacher and constantly confused us and incorrectly did simple addition and subtraction problems. At some point one of the students took control and started teaching. For our CPR class everyone tested at the same time and some of the students laughed and joked around not really even doing the CPR and passed with an A.

I was also misled about the transfer ability, so for continuing education, I would have to start from scratch. They misinformed me of the 1 year wait I would have, to take my boards. I was never told I would have to wait to take them, until almost finishing the ultrasound program. When I finished I had a difficult time finding a job, and assumed it was because I didn't take my boards. I looked more into taking my boards and was informed that not only did I have a year wait; but it had to be a full year working full time before I could take them.

We were also told CAAHEP was coming in for accreditation and never heard a thing about it afterwards. However did hear rumors they did not pass due to the fact that they had 30 days to fix simple problems and had not.

I was not informed of many issues that I am now having prior to signing up to the school. I am unsure what I going to do with my loans, due to the fact I cannot even getting a job in the field, along with almost everyone else that was in my class.

They told me I had to have prerequisites of medical assisting, and 16 other credits before entering the ultrasound program at any school, which is untrue. So now I have loans for $14,000 for medical assisting, $36,000 for Ultrasound, and had to pay out of pocket for 16 credits of whatever from the community college costing nearly $2,000. 6 months after finishing school, I received a bill in the mail for $409 a month, how am I supposed to afford that when I cant even get a decent job.
