My complaint centers around a scam that our local Saturn dealer in Amarillo, Texas nailed us with and I am sure there are others who have been ripped off. Bear in mind that the actual process of purchasing the car was pleasant compared to other dealers I have had the misfortune to deal with. The vehicle itself has caused me no problems and is a pleasure to own.

My problem lies in the "Free Fuel" scam that I assume Saturn of America has enticed potential customers with to lure them into the dealership. Last December (2000) my wife purchased a new Saturn from Saturn of Amarillo, Texas. The salesman, a Mr. Cagle told both my wife and I that they were offering $500.00 of free gasoline with the purchase on any new Saturn. I will say that dealing with Mr. Cagle has been nothing but pleasurable until now. The procedure to claim the gas is simply filling out a form and mailing it to Saturn and soon we would receive vouchers for reimbursement of up to $40.00 a month for any gas purchases.

This was nice, should pay for a year's worth of gas at the very least. We mailed the necessary paperwork to Saturn and waited for the vouchers to arrive. Well, it's now April and no word on the free gas so being the patient people we are a phone call was placed to the Saturn Dealership in Amarillo. Once our salesman discovered what the phone call was about he quickly handed off to the "manager" (Brad, I think) The manager then explained that they (?) has contracted with some company called National Fuels to provide the reimbursements and that this company had defaulted on their end of the bargain and we were pretty much screwed. His story is that Saturn ( don't know if it was a local thing or national) payed this company to handle the paperwork and paid them a great sum of money to both pay for the reimbursements as well as the handling fees. National Fuels decided to take the money and run.

Here's is our only hope according to our dealer. IF Saturn is able to recover any of the money we will be given a share of the loot but not to expect anything. I'm sorry but I have a written contract that states the Saturn dealership owes me $500.00 worth of free gas. It's on the contract and on another signed form that states "We (Saturn dealership) owe (Sorry, no names)$500.00 worth of free gas" I did not contract with any fuel thief for the gas, the contract is with Saturn. They owe me five hundred bucks and I won't shut up until they come up with it.

Anyone out there with the same complaint? Let the world hear about it.

SATURN OF AMARILLO AND HUNDREDS OF OTHER DEALERS ACROSS THE NATION WERE THE VICTIMS OF THIS CRIME. NATIONAL FUELS CORPORATIONS OWNER DEREK FREDETTE WAS ARRESTED AND ALL OF HIS ASSETS WERE SEIZED. WE FILED CHARGES WITH THE US ATTORNEYS OFFICE IN WYOMING IN THE SPRING OF 2000. THE CASE WAS FINALLY SETTLED IN DECEMBER OF 2000. TO DATE WE HAVE PAID ALL THE CUSTOMERS WHO HAVE CONTACTED THE RETAIL FACILITY AND PROVIDED US WITH THE DOCUMENTATION SHOWING THEY SUBMITTED THEIR VOUCHERS TO NATIONAL FUELS AS REQUIRED BY THE PROGRAM. IT IS UNFORTUNATE WE WERE INVOLVED IN THIS SCAM; HOWEVER, WE HAVE MADE GOOD ON ALL VOUCHERS WE KNEW OF. DEAN SATHER GENERAL MANAGER
