Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
A service call was placed when all 4 business lines at our office went down at 8:10 am. After waiting on hold with an automated system for 8 minutes, a live person answered and told me that the problem must be inside my building because her computer said our building had dial tone. I informed her that my telephone system was newly upgraded, digital and had been performing perfectly.

As well, I mentioned that a digging crew was working across the street with a backhoe at the time we lost service. She said that she felt problem was inside and I should call equipment provider.

I called the Avaya system repair, they responded within 45 minutes and found everything in order inside, but the lines were dead outside. Sure enough the lines had been cut across the street as I suspected. Furthermore, they said it would have been impossible for the SBC operator to hear a dial tone at my building.

The Avaya unnecessary service call cost me $98.00.

I called SBC, 3 hours later a service man appeared and found all lines had been cut by backhoe operator. Lines were not restored until the next morning a full days service including all credit card transactions were lost.

SBC constantly tells people the problem is with their telephone equipment. They refused to reimburse me for AVAYA service call.

Encourage your local, state, and federal reps to endorse unrestricted Voice Internet Protocol so we can eliminate SBC monopoly and poor service in hard line communication.

get time warner high speed internet (through the cable lines) order either roadrunner, aol, earthlink, or snet. keyword time warner cable go to iconnecthere.com $8.95 phone service via voip over internet install the free no spy or adware!!! go to target and by a phone or computer headset around 5 bucks. plug in to your computer and start talking. keep in mind the only downside to voip is you are charged airtime but cheaper than a cell phone. NO FCC approved line charge NO Federal Universal Service Charge (algore tax) NO State Universal Service Charge NO connect fee or setup fee NO 911 tax No surchages NO TIF If iconnecthere were a women I would marry her. Vonage now charges $1.50 surcharge they must be supporting Johnkerry. Sbc is a MONOPOLY because if something goes wrong with your line sbc has to come out because SBC owns the landline. Also thanks for the FCC's landline to wireless number portability I got rid of SBC and transfered my landline phone to sprint pcs. SBC does have a monopoly on intralata preferred number service the feature that lets you have a San Antonio or Austin local number and have callers dialing a local number reach a houston number. All other providers do not have this feature not even Vonage or iconnecthere. Until then my san antonio and austin texas phone numbers have to be served by sbc and I am writing letters to GOVT about this nonsense. Anyone Care to debate monopoly with this?

VOIP, we do not want you to leave and can understand your frustration.

Michael - as the last commentor stated SBC is a large company, with many lines (approx 55 million), and isn't necessarily the most user friendly sometimes, but unlike the previous poster we do not want you to leave and can understand your frustration. The state PUC's and FCC regulate the telephone companies to death (former ATT companies) while the new upstarts, long distance providers, and cable companies are free to do whatever, whenever, and for however much. SBC even has to provide floor space in their buildings for the Telecommunications competitors to come in, setup shop and sell their service in direct competition with SBC. Granted most are only going after the highly lucrative large business customers and ignoring the average residential customer, but what type of parity is that in the Telecommunications realm. It would be like the Gov forcing you to lease part of your floor space at a below wholesale cost, move in and sell the same products you do at a lower rate because the Gov says 'no you must leave your rates the same so your competitor can sell his service'. If your wish of VOIP were to come true, what do you think would carry the signal to your place of business? Telco Guy

learn the real definition of a monopoly!!

yeah,ok maybe all you people should get out 2 books- one-your DICTIONARY!! try it! you might actually learn the real definition of a monopoly!! two-your history book-namely look at 1986!! the year the FCC required sbc to allow competition. and yes people-contrary to popular belief-sbc is what ameritech and pac bell was ( really, it WAS just a name change)and is the original bell phone company that WAS a monopoly. And you do have a choice! HELLO!! the fcc requires it. Maybe you need a third book-the phone book!! or try an online search. get over it!! sbc is a big company-many employees-not all good. you all prejudge an entire company of VERY hardworking employees on a few people. NOT FAIR!! So if you dont like sbc-leave. Find something else. If no one else is available-its because no other company wants to provide service in your location-which has nothing to do with sbc. Why do you people complain and then do nothing but continue to complain? You know also try a little bit of addtional reading if you want more information. After all the regulations SBC is required to follow are a public record-you know that little thing called the FCC and being FEDERALLY mandated and all. If you dont belive what your told-read them. pretty interesting i can assure you. And since they are federally mandated-hmm, wait that means that they are kind of like laws. you know, those pesky little thing we all have to follow-or pay for them. If you all think SBC is a monopoly-when its the 2nd largest phone company in the us-what do you think of verizon? And if SBC was such a BAD company-would they have 196million lines-with people switching and then coming back EVERYDAY! check the numbers man, people do leave sbc(i did) and come back. of their own choice.
