Back in 1996, I worked as an "associate" of a Scentura franchise in Miami, FL. All the other descriptions on here of the scam are 100% accurate! They lure people in with the phony "management" position, tell them only a few will be able to "hack it" and that not everyone will be accepted. Then you have to go out with a bunch of strangers to various parts of the area in order to sell perfume "renditions." The price is usually $20.00 per bottle, which $15 goes to the office and $5 to the salesperson. Now a 25% commission *sounds* good, but in order to sell these perfume phonies, it requires a hard sell. If you're really good at selling (or have no ethics) you can sell a few bottles a day. The most I ever saw anyone sell was about 7 bottles. That means $35 for a day's work. You can make more than that working McDonald's, and not run the risk of being arrested for selling without a license (no the Scentura office won't tell you that!) They bring out people who are Silver or Gold Associates to prove that success is attainable. They give a rousing speech about how everyone can do it and how wonderful it is, yadda yadda yadda. I got to Silver level and got my own "office." The company chooses the location, and you have no say in it. It is usually a single room with a desk, chair, and a telephone. Your "business" is calling other gullible people in order to sucker them into your downline. The more people you recruit (and hopefully are either successful or totally gullible) the more you make from portions of their sales. Gold members run several silver members and supposedly make lots of money from the entry-level schlubs they brought in, who go out selling the merch(andise). I quit after realizing that I wasn't really my own boss and that I couldn't in good conscience mislead other people. This is not about enabling people to open their own businesses; it's about duping more and more people and profitting off their gullibility and/or embarrassment of being duped (and therefore staying in it). Scentura Creations are scams that only bring profit to the top of the pyramid.

Um no, I too was scammed by this company. I was 8 months pregnant and since I could not go sell any perfume (because i couldn't walk the streets) I was offered to "work" in the office. I also am an ex employee and "carlos" was just following the script we learned when ansewering the phone. IF the "caller" calls in and starts asking questions you are suppose to give only yes or no reponds and ansewer no questions but to tell them just to come to the "interview". Which by the way has it's own script.

I do not understand how someone can judge something they never even saw for themselves. Carlos was a temp receptionist that we hired for two weeks while our regular receptionist was out on vacation. So, he did not know too much about the company, only that he needed to set people up with interviews to meet with me. That is why we do same day interviews so I can meet with you in person. The receptionist can only say so much over the phone after all that is not their job to interview you over the phone. This person mentioned we are not listed in the phone book but we are in the yellow pages. It doesn't really matter to me what university you graduated from or if you even went to collage at all that does not make you a better person maybe a little book smarter but thats about it. What we are doing is giving young adults with or without a college education the opportunity to own their own business. I am 23 years old and I made over 75k in my first year in this business. My attitude was if I have to sell rendition(not fake) perfume for 5-8 weeks in order to live the american dream of owning my own business and being financially independent then thats what I was going to do. You can't really talk about things or judge things you know nothing about. Thank you for reading. I hope you realize every store has two sides.
