Scoresense.com offered me a 'free' credit report, then billed me $30 per month even though I did not sign up for their services.  Once I got the 'membership' I checked it to see if there was some value, as it was only $30 per month. It provides very little value. 

Trying to cancel the membership was very difficult.  I searched the website, only to find it hidden in the FAQ section.  You are not allowed to cancel the membership online.  Instead, you are given a toll free number to call.  I expected the scam to be the Score Sense representative trying to convince me to stay with the service.  It was worst than I anticipated.  First I was kept on hold for about 15 minutes, then an annoying representative that was overly chatty tried to engage me in meaningless chit chat about the weather.  (Someone needs to clue her in on the fact that people are busy and not interested in wasting more time.) 

I asked that I cancel my membership. She attempted to engage me with numerous questions, to which I kept replying that I simply wanted to cancel my membership.  I asked her politely to cut to the chase as I was busy.  She ignored this and instead started her slick sales talk.  She offered to lower the price from the $30 per month to a $15 per month charge.  I had previously told her I got 'no value' from the service.  Why would I want to spend $15 for no value? 

I finally had to nearly scream at her to just let me cancel the membership.  Now that the membership is 'cancelled,' I'll be curious to see if Score Sense actually stops deducting my credit card. 

 

Takeaway from this:  DON'T get caught up in this.  Your credit card company may be able to provide the same credit monitoring service as this ripoff.  I find out that mine does.  Places like this bank on the fact that many people are too busy to hassle with cancelling.  Meanwhile the $30 per month just keeps getting automatically charged to your credit card. 

 

Shame on you Score Sense.  You could eliminate this problem by making it easy for someone to cancel their membership.  We know why you don't do this, though.  It's because your service orovides no real value, ergo is a scam.
