Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
I recently had a problem with my Sears ultrawash dishwasher. Made an appointment by phone to have someone come and repair it. They called me to let me know of a $65. minimum trip charge, which I authorized.

The service man arrived on the time promised. Looked at the problem and made a couple of tests. He then pulled out a laptop computer and looked up a part. He determined that a small circuit board (processor) was the problem.

He then informed me that the cost of this little circuit board was going to be $308.00 PLUS labor! I said" You know, and I know that this little part isn't worth $308.00 and he just shrugged his shoulders.

I showed him the door. The cost of this dish washer NEW was about $450. How can these "Ripoff Thieves" continue in business when they blatently pull this kind of stuff??

I was LIVID and I stopped back at the Sears store soon after to inform the salesman that I bought it from that he has seen the last of me. What I should have asked the repairman is why he doesn't wear a MASK when he works.....

***From the Sears Appliances Website*** Professional service by trained Sears technicians you can trust: Complete parts and labor for all covered repairs at no extra cost. This includes normal wear and tear and even cosmetic parts for 3 years Unlimited service calls on covered repairs at no extra charge and no hidden fees If we can't fix it, we'll replace it No hassles -- you deal directly with Sears, not the manufacturer A free annual preventive maintenance and performance check at your request 3 years In-Home: $99.00 5 years In-Home: $139.00 *** So, you spent $65 just to have the service tech make a trip to your house. Even if the part had still only cost $50, as you claim it should have, plus labor, that still would have exceeded the cost of a 5 year service plan that you CHOSE NOT TO BUY. Chances are you probably ignored the salesperson when he offered it to you, and then you had the nerve to go back and blame him for the quality of the product. Shame on you. It wasn't his fault that your dishwasher was defective, that you didn't purchase the PA, and that the product manufacturer prices the part so high. By the way, Sears does make quite a bit of money when you buy a PA. However, when someone actually uses the service, it costs Sears the equivalent of five agreements to pay for the one service call. It's like insurance. You give money to Allstate for car insurance, but if you never use it, they keep all the money. However, in Sears' case, there is no deductible, no limit on coverage, and they'll never drop your coverage.

You're WRONG again Josh!!!!!

WRONG again Josh!!! Why do you think Sears pushes the consumer so hard to buy service contracts? Because Sears makes Big money from them. Sears doesn't do it to offer the public the opportunity to get their appliances fixed at no charge to the consumer. They make BIG money. Otherwise they would not sell service contracts. They use the overinflated price of the part(in my case $308.00) to coerce the customers to purchase that contract. That way the customer feels safe. If Sears PAID the over inflated price for their parts (in my case $308.00) they would not have a very big profit margin on that service contract. So Josh, guess who INFLATES the price of that part?? If you aren't as naive as I think you are, you can guess--Sears inflates the price! Josh, you have worked for Sears about 21/2 years now. Haven't you asked any questions of Sears as to how they make these obscene profits at the expense of the innocent customer. Wake up Josh and get in the real world and realize that YES, Sears does ripoff the public. If you think they don't, LOOK again. You seem to be a person of some conscience to have answered my complaint. Look at this and the many other complaints lodged against Sears on this website. If you can still look at yourself in the mirror, it's not too late for you. Find another job.

You have no idea... Lady, it's not SEARS you have a problem with.

Exactly the response I expected from an ignorant person. First of all, YES the age of the product DOES matter. When it comes to appliances, televisions, etc., the older the product, the more expensive it is to get parts, simply because they aren't made in large quantities. Second, how do YOU know the price of the part? Do YOU price the item? And, if you went somewhere else, they would PROBABLY order the SAME part at the SAME price! Lady, it's not SEARS you have a problem with. You have a problem with the manufacturer of the part. Sears does NOT price their parts. The bottom line is that you are cheap. Suck it up and pay the money to fix it, buy a new one, or just shut up about it.

Exactly my point Josh!!!!!! The UNETHICAL practice of overcharging

Age of the dishwasher or whether there is a service contract is NOT the question. The UNETHICAL practice of overcharging for the part is the point of my complaint. The price quoted ($308.00) for a small circuit board is a RIPOFF any way you look at it. Hey Josh, imagine you're driving down the road and you look down at rhe dashboard and see your alternator light suddenly come on. You drive into the nearest gas station and tell the station attendant about it. He says, "I can change the alternator for you. The new one will run you $954.00. How would that set with you Josh? The age of the car doesn't matter. 2years, 5 years, 10 years?? You are still getting ripped off. Just like I did by the UNETHICAL THIEVES at Sears. id this sinlk in now JOSH?????

GREEDY THIEVES wanted 308.00

exactly my point, ..Josh, you missed my point. I WAS smart enough not to have a protection plan. THEY ARE A RIPOFF...The point I'm trying to make, and I think it's pretty clear, THE PART THAT WAS BAD WAS NOT WORTH THE 308.00 they said it cost. More likely it was 50.00. If they told me I had to pay 50.00 for the part plus 60.00 for labor, I would probably had the dishwasher fixed and everyone would be happy. But the GREEDY THIEVES wanted 308.00 for a part that was way overpriced and I think that is WRONG!! Get it now JOSH??? The age of the product has nothing to do with being overcharged. Many people who deal with Sears eventually find this out. I DON'T RECOMMEND BUYING FROM SEARS!!!!!!!!!

To call Sears "ripoff thieves" is hardly accurate.

I have worked at Sears for 2.5 years and have heard all kinds of these types of stories. First of all, how old is your dishwasher? Did you buy the Protection agreement? Better yet, is your factory warranty expired? Have you ever actually looked at a dishwasher? There's nothing to them! Probably the most expensive part on a dishwasher IS the circuitboard! That's just as bad as complaining about a $2500 PLUS labor service bill to replace a light engine on a Hitachi LCD television, when a brand new one costs only $3200! And that does happen! Do you know why it's SO expensive? Because the light engine (a circuitboard) IS the TV! My point is that just because you have a problem with a product and receive a large bill to get it fixed, don't get mad. Expect it. Especially if your warranty is already expired and you weren't smart enough to buy the Protection Agreement!
