I purchased 2 vacuum cleaners from Sears.com that I knew had been discontinued, but were listed on Sears' site.  I went on their chat line and asked if they were still available before I placed the order. I was lied to and told, yes. That was the beginning of my nightmare, because I got scammed and had to waste hours of my time trying to get my money back.  I had to close out my credit card that I had auto-payments set up on, so the ripple effect wasted even more of my time.

My order was turned over to Sears' Marketplace Merchant named "Choice Avenue." They took money from my account, didn't ship the vacuums, assigned a bogus sales check number to try and make it look like the order was "fulfilled," had a nonworking phone number, wouldn't respond to my email, and then closed their online store after they stole my money.

Customer Service was useless.  I called several times and kept getting people who barely speak English.  I emailed them repeatedly, and got the same response every time: "We're researching it and it will take 7-10 business days."  I finally had to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and a dispute with my credit card holder to get my money back.

I did not know that I needed to read Sears' Terms and Conditions before placing an order to keep from being scammed, but have since learned this valuable information in their response to my complaint with the BBB.  My interpretation is, "Order at your own risk, because we don't have a clue who you'll be dealing with!"

They also responded that I was fully aware I was ordering from an International merchant and was given the opportunity to research the merchant before I placed my order.  That is complete B.S.  I am very careful about who I order from and give my credit card number to, and was not aware I was ordering from an International merchant.  (Please don't misinterpret this, I'm not saying that all International merchants are dishonest.  It's the cost of mailing an item back if it's defective that keeps me from placing International orders.)

So beware when ordering from Sears.com.  They've had over 12,000 complaints filed with the BBB in the last 3 years.  That pretty much speaks for itself.  They will never get another dime from me.
