I signed up for remodeling and addition leads from ServiceMagic about a month ago and have thus far found their service to be considerably less-than-desirable. They have a real propensity to jack-up the level of service from the less-profitable categories to the much more profitable ones. Clearly their goal is not quality customer/client service. Rather, it's bringing in as much money as can be had for ServiceMagic and the contractors and customers be damned.

Example #1. I was given a lead for replacing tile in a shower. I am a Remodeling/Renovation Contractor. I don't do simple tile surround replacements. It isn't worth my time to drive down to a $1,000.00 job lead, issue a bid and then return to the job site four or so times if I'm the winning contractor for a profit of $120.00! I have to pay ServiceMagic $50.00 from this profit which laves me a whopping $70.00 to pay for four hours of my time plus gas to get there and back.

Example #2. I was given a lead to replace a kitchen counter top. Please. How can this even remotely be worth my time, for God's sake? Again, I am a licensed, Bonded and Insured General Contractor specializing in remodeling, renovations and additions. I am NOT signed-up for Maintenance & Repair or Handyman leads.

Example #3. I was given a lead for a kitchen remodel where-in the phone contacts could not speak English. There's a quality lead.

I had to fight and argue with my ServiceMagic advisor, one Leonardo Fonseca, about the third example and was dumb-founded when he tried to tell that that's just The way it goes. What a fool. I am still awaiting credit on example #1 above. I was promised a decision within 2 5 days following my complaint. You guessed itno response. We'll see how they handle example #2: I'm not holding my breath.

I have sense shut-off my leads while I await ServiceMagic's adjustments. We'll see. One of two things is painfully obvious here; either ServiceMagic's staff that interview prospective leads are incompetent dolts or they are guilty of fraudulent deceptive practices. Either way, ServiceMagic is a company with whom you may want to seriously reconsider doing business.

Get reimbursed for a misappropriated lead from the Homeowners Request

Sir: If you were charged $50 for a "kitchen remodel" for a counter top, since the leads are computer generated, can't you figure out that the homeowner is asking for what they think are in the catagory of kitchen remodel. Of course this is a counter top and you should not be charged $50 fee for this type of lead. You can ask for credit on your web page which will take you about 30 seconds, or you can call customer service at 877.947.3639. They will be happy to assist you to be sure you are charged for a laminate countertop lead that cost $13 instead of a full kitchen remodel. Home Owner name their projects that they feel they are getting out if it instead of what the project actually is. I hope this helps you out with this issue. Any other issues, please contact customer service and they will see what they can do for you, not against you. Enjoy your day!
