Shade Tree Garage Ripoff Auto Mechanics Morristown, New Jersey
My car was having engine problems and was very difficult to drive, so I brought it in for them to examine. I was hoping they could figure out the problem and repair it.
After dropping the car off, they said they could give me a ride to work. They used my car to bring me to work, which I figured was to give it a test drive. Later that day, they called and said they could not figure out why the engine was hesitating so much, but they made a big point of saying the car was very unsafe to drive. They then said they would pick me up again from work so I could get the car.
Much to my surprise, one of their mechanics arrived at my job driving my car! If my car was so unsafe to drive, why would they risk the safety of their mechanic when they could have easily used another car to pick me up. Or, were they just saying that to get more business?
Arriving back at the garage, they presented me with a bill for $90 which they had not mentioned before, despite the fact they really didn't do anything and I was still at square one. They did mention, however, for an additional $400 they could do a complete engine analysis.
So what happens if they do the engine analysis and still can't find the problem or it costs hundreds of dollars more to repair? I got out of there quickly and never returned.
