Purchased a Doberman puppy from Donna Seeker with full AKC registration for 3000$ which included $400 for ear cropping..the pup was born on 11-27-19. That being said I received the puppy with no microchip ($75.00) value, no a.k.c. papers and had to take the dog to get her ears fixed for another $466 , the so called vet she used botched the dogs ears and they actually put wire in the puppies ears ( which I don't know how that is morally or ethically legal ) and they placed it down to low which then caused the ears to curl over at the top and the ears to flop and not stand up straight, that being said I had to take her to two different vets here and they were in shock and appalled at what they did to this poor dog, its borderline abuse to do that to any animal....she refuses answer calls or emails in regards to these issues...How do people get away with this ?! I want ear cropping money refunded and microchipping refunded and the full AKC papers that I paid for...

The papers are in and will be mailed out next week, your patience is appreciated. Please stay well during this virus crisis.

If you plan on coming here to return the puppy, please send me pictures of what your vet did to her ears first as we have full discretion on taking back puppies. Our visiting hours are 12 to 5 by appointment only, in this case I will arrange for a police officer to be here. If you are not returning the dog, there is no reason for you to be here.

Sincerely,

Patricia,

I am responding to an email from you that I received Saturday afternoon 02/22/20 and the follow up email I received this morning asking if “This is how I want to Proceed.” Obviously, you were referring to the fact that I did not respond to you Saturday night or Sunday. As like most businesses I do not work on Saturday nights or Sundays, that is why I did not respond until now.

The receipt attached to your email does not specify what the surgery was for, did your vet re-cut the ears or just remove the nylon inserts? In 8 years of breeding Dobermans and our vet putting in nylon inserts we have never had a client re-cut the ears and have never had a client charged $466 for removing nylon inserts. In fact, we have often heard from clients their vets are quite impressed with how our vet does ears.

Please refer to our Sales Contract concerning our Health Guarantee that was emailed to you on 12/01/19, 12/30/19 and 02/15/20. Our Ear cropping information was emailed to you on 12/30/19 and 02/15/20. In addition, this information was printed out and sent to you in a packet attached to the crate your puppy was shipped in as well. I am including this same Ear Cropping information page at the bottom of this email, please read the highlighted section.

It is expected for the puppy’s ears to curl as the nylon inserts do not go all the way to the tip of the ears, and removal of the nylon inserts does not require anesthesia. As stated in our Ear Cropping information, your vet should have contacted our vet about how to remove the inserts. If you had allowed me to speak when you called instead of screaming at me, you would have heard me explain this. I also created a video while I was at the airport waiting to ship your dog, explaining how the ears were done, why they curl at the top, how to take care of the newly cropped ears and how to straighten out the curl at the top. Before you picked up the puppy, I posted this video on my Facebook page and asked you to watch it.

As far as the scar tissue is concerned, we have never had a puppy develop scar tissue from our vet putting in the nylon inserts unless they were left in past 4 weeks. From what you are telling me your puppy had the inserts removed after them being in only one week.

Ear surgery is an elective and cosmetic procedure and is therefore not covered under the Health Guarantee nor is it refundable. As stated above, you were sent the Ear Cropping information at the time I asked you if you wanted our vet to crop your puppy’s ears. In other words, information about our vet's procedure putting nylon inserts in your puppy’s ears was made clear prior to you requesting he crop the ears.

I addressed the AKC papers and the microchip in a Facebook message dated 02/16/20, shown below.

I am sorry you are so unhappy with your puppy. Normally I go over everything with my clients after the puppy is shipped and received. You will be receiving a packet with the microchips, calcium supplements and AKC papers in about a week. In the 9 years I have been selling Dobermans I have NEVER had anyone have to have ears redone. Your vet is obviously unfamiliar with this procedure. There is no need to re-do the ears. I have re-sent you the information on ear cropping which was mailed to you for the first time on Dec 30th. In this email the nylon insert procedure is explained.

Ear Cropping

We use Hall - Barrs Animal Clinic in Danville, GA for ear cropping, tail docking and dewclaw removal. For ear cropping our vet trims the ears and places a nylon insert inside the ear to hold it upright.  The stitches need to be removed 14 days after surgery, the nylon inserts need to be removed in 4 weeks. Our vet will remove the nylon inserts free of charge, to make an appointment please call the number below.

Usually a standard crop will require taping for about 1-2 months after the inserts are removed, however a show cut must be taped for 6 to 8 months after the inserts are removed. To watch an instructional video on how to tape ears the way we do it, please watch the following video link; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o6cNolzJHeA&feature=share.

Ear Care

While the stitches are in and for two weeks after they come out you must apply an antibiotic ointment, such as Neosporin, to the edge of the ear where the incision was made at least twice a day. It is especially important to keep the top of the ear moist to prevent it from drying out and curling downward.

Do not allow your puppy to play with other pets while the stitches are in or until the ears are fully healed to avoid ear infections. Do not tape the ears until the stitches are out and they are fully healed.

Watch for swelling, redness, bleeding or oozing, these are signs of infection and must be treated by a veterinarian with an antibiotic. We treat ear/skin infections with Cephalexin, 250 mg for pups under 15 lbs, 500 mg for larger pups.

As a service to our clients we offer to handle ear cropping with our veterinarian and although we will do all that we can to assist our customers with ear care we cannot control the outcome of ear surgery. If your vet needs instructions on removing the nylon inserts or if a problem arises such as the nylon insert twisting or poking through the ear have your vet contact Dr Barrs - 478-962-3415.

Sincerely,

Donna Seeker
