Shane Chancey @ Spore Trading Post Aka Spores CA Shane Chancey stole my invention after verbally contracting me to manufacture "The Little Wonder" humidifier system Marysville Ohio
I invented a hands off humidifying system which I named "The Little Wonder". It was capable of producing humidity upwards of 95%, and was perfect for plant and animal terrariums. Having searched for a seller of my product, I found the Spore Trading Post aka Spores CA and contacted the owner, Shane Chancey.
He asked if I would be willing to supply him with my product which he planned to sell on his site. I made the first unit and shipped it to the Spore Trading Post at my own expense for his review. The unit was shipped with a growing container identical to those which are sold on his site. He promised to forward all orders to me in return for a apprecable commision.
I immediatly started large scale production of the humidifier and shipped boxes of them to Mr.Chancey at my own expense. For every ten I shipped, it was arranged to have a direct deposit made to my checking account via wire transfer of funds.
At first, deposits were made with some delays, then toward the end of my relationship with Mr. Chancey, deposits ceased. In a similar manner to that which I just read on this site, I would call repeatedly, email, and leave messages. I was getting pretty pissed off but figured he would refuse to pay if I opened my mouth and accused him of ripping me off.
Finally, after one month of persistance on my end, and many excuses and lies from Shane on his end, an electronic deposit was made for most of what he owed me. Never did he reimburse me for the first unit I sent. He said he was going to send me some items from his site, yet they were never shipped.
What actually transpired was he stole my idea, cut me out of the loop of production, started manufacturing the humidifiers and lied to me about taking it off his web site due to slow sales. I asked him then to remove it from his site if it was no longer being sold.
When I confronted him on the matter, he told me he had one unit left, and was leaving it on the site until it had sold. That was over two years ago. Since then, he has changed the name of his web site, and is still selling my invention.
Not only did he rip off my invention and cut me out of the loop, but he conned me into writing up the technical information which he published on his site after putting his company name on it. I received no recognition nor compensation for my efforts.
I still have many parts for the humidifiers left in my stock which at this point are useless. I only regret not pattenting the "The Little Wonder" and having legal recourse.
An interesting thing to note here is as our relationship grew, he would open up with me over the phone. He told me that he grew up in the projects and learned at a very young age how to rip people off. He would tell me of unhappy STP customers and how he would blow them off, then laugh. He said that all the spores he sold were all the same and that people were so stupid believing his statement that the higher the price, the more potent they were.
I should have known that I would at some point be victimized as were many in his past. I was foolish for trusting the soft tone in his voice. I would now like to see this crook exposed for what he truely is, a fraud and a liar.
