First I would like to thank ripoff report for exsisting, I quickly ran to my office to query signtronix when the salesman walked through our door and seeing all the complaints made me catious of his "FANTASTIC OFFER" sales pitch.

Secondly I would Like to say be WARY, VERY WARY Western Massachusetts!

I recently opened a restaurant and don't have the most attractive signs yet due to cost. Well that apparently made me a good canidate for a traveling signtronix rep, supposedly a regional manager by the name of Doug out of New Hampshire.

He approached my brother and I with a "fantastic offer" as he would call it. So we decided that we could listen to his sales pitch and at least give him a chance. Maybe all the complaints were secluded incidences. He started off with his description of the "GREAT" product that his company made. Showing us the cheesy light up car sign. First off all the graphics look like they were created in 1985 in the earliest known image creation software. Well he decided that we were interested enough to draw us up a quick sketch of what our "GREAT" new sign could look like. (He may want to consider investing in some non-toxic markers... So he doesn't lose more brain cells, he needs the ones he has.)

Well after his sales pitch he started scribbling prices, first the price for the "Regular" customer who asks signtronix to make them a sign. Then there was our price, The "Showcase" price because they had money in their "advertising budget" to help out with new areas, so they could put their logo on the bottom lip and people would investigate and call for their own flashy new "GREAT" sign. Well the discount amount was far less then we had anticipated with all his talks of a "FANTASTIC DEAL, that we COULD NOT refuse." 10% off isn't fantasic Doug, nor is an extra 10% off to cover the cost of shipping and installation which we would be responsible for, regardless of the actual cost of these items. Especially when the normal person who contacts signtronix typically saves 10%? I though we were special, Doug? Now these are the prices for the leased through Northern Leasing deal. The price was almost cut in half when we talked about a cash deal, But we saw no "FANTASTIC" savings with the cash deal.

Fortunatly for me, my brother is a former used cars salesman and saw straight through all the B.S. We countered and said we didn't see the fantasticness of his deal. I showed him a qoute to replace the current type of sign face we had and told him that a "FANTASTIC" offer should at least come close to this, especially as a unique "SHOWCASE" sign for the area. Not be 10 times as expensive as the current faces we have, for helping him advertise which was his starting sales line. Well that made him upset, because his signs are far superior and can't even be compared to a regular sign on any level, he started to lose his cool. Not something you want to do as a Regional Rep. of this great national company that claims to be a great resource for the small business community.

Needless to say he started packing up in his tantrum of rejection and non-negotiable today only deal. We asked for a business card in case we reconsidered and wanted to do something in the future with his company. He snidely remarked that we "WOULD" see one of his "GREAT" signs in the local area within 4 to 6 weeks and we just missed out on a "GREAT" opportunity. We could call the number on the bottom of that sign if we were interested and that person would make the comission of their sign, which we didn't get to talk about because we rejected his deal. Well I don't know about you, but I wouldn't trust a salesman that won't over-enthusiasticaly give you his contact information. Business people LOVE giving our their precious little business cards.

I think he was just upset that 2 mid-20's didn't buy his sugar-coated B.S. and were too good at negotiating for him to handle. Not to mention his over-confidence and superior view towards his "GREAT" product that he wouldn't even compare to a flat faced sign because his were just far superior. Which I believe would be comparing, Doug... Thanks for wasting our time with your "FANTASTIC" offer though. And, If you do manage to convince someone to buy your "GREAT" sign in the local area, we will be sure to stop by and LAUGH at them first, and then help them file a complaint because I would almost guarantee that they won't feel like they got a "FANTASTIC" deal.

Doug if you read this, you should really work on not contradicting yourself in your sales pitch. It shouldn't have holes in it that are absurdely easy to see. You should also work on negotiating, it's a common practice in the "REAL" business world, I guess it lacks in your fantasy land of "GREAT" signs that are "FAR SUPERIOR" then anything I could purshase at a local sign shop for anything less than a small fortune.

We would have considered buying if you hadn't come in with your "FANTASTIC OFFER" deal that you didn't deliver on. If you had come in and said look at my sign, here is what I would make for your business, it costs x$ and will take x weeks to deliver, or you could make a payment plan for x$'s down and x$'s a month. Don't make the consumer feel like they missed the boat when you walk out the door, make yourself available if they change their minds, that is what business cards were invented for. The world is full of far too many too good to be true deals that always come up short. Where as you have a great product that I think people would actually consider buying without all the B.S. that you are trying. You shouldn't have to bully and guilt people to sell your product.

First off Sophie, I do believe you are being a bit too literal with the term 'ripoff'. There is NOTHING wrong with stating a complaint about how a company, or it's sales team, operates. Especially if it may save someone from being... ripped off. You even state that you thought this site was for people "who were mislead" and let me tell you, a Signtronix sales-pitch is misleading. Every potential customer gets the "yours will be a showcase sign, and since we [Signtronix] would like a sign in a new area, you will get a special price" speech. Later after doing some research you will probably find a Signtronix sign nearby and learn that what you were told was far from the truth. You will also get the deceptive over-inflated pricing thrown at you and if you would buy, you would end up paying what the normal price would be to begin with. It doesn't get more misleading than that With those facts aside, and by merely telling a personal story about a run-in with this company, how could it be damaging? It's not like you will find the name Signtronix in your local phone book and be able to research and find this 'damaging information' that would cause you to not do business with them (why would you be looking for a sign company in the phone book to begin with? Every business owner that I have spoken with was not even shopping for, or thinking of buying, a sign at the time. It was totally unsolicited) Anyway, back to the subject at hand. Here are few points... For one, if the company is as great as they say they are, what do they have to worry about? Keeping on the business type of the original poster, a lot of restaurants have surveys, and even comment drop-boxes, and things such as these are to help make service better, even if it means pointing out flaws with the employees. By your logic, are you stating that people shouldn't use tools like this to help create a better business evironment, or to cause a 'weak link' in the business chain to be removed and replaced? As long is it is not a blatant lie and able to be proven as such, like saying you found a finger in your chili, don't be quick to judge with your assumptious views (or lack-of) Second, aside from the poster here whom was lucky enough, it is usually not the case for any other person approached by a Signtronix sales person to get the chance to even look into this company before buying into a sign. You can come to this conclusion just by reading the majority of complaints here (and if you have had the pleasure of meeting a Signtronix sales person, more than likely you will know this as fact). So, in hindsight, you can not defuse a bomb after it has already gone off. The damage has already been done, but not to the 'innocent sales person' What I am saying is that if you are here looking at reports on Signtronix, it is more than likely 'too late'. You already know what kind of company it is. Nothing you will read here would be damaging a Signtronix sales person, unless of course you want to consider the fact that the complaints are starting to stack up and they all have the same 'feel' to them. This is brought on by Signtronix on it's own by the way in which the company is operated, so if they can't change the underlying problem (not that they would want to do so), they have no room to complain As Johnny states, "only 2% call back". This is why the sales person goes "all or nothing" and will say, and do, any thing possible to make the sale on day-one. In and out. If it would go any other way and the sale is not made on the initial visit, the person that is being targetted to be sold on a sign will have a chance to look into this company and that would be the end of the sale for Mr Sign Guy! Also, on the subject of NOT handing out a business card when asked. Maybe if a Signtronix sales person would hand out cards like a 'normal' (and professional) sales person would GLADLY do, you may just get a few people to call you back. You don't have a "unique" Signtronix sign attached to your head that would increase your new customer flow by 65.275%! So c'mon, let the passing public know who you are, where you are, and what you do! Hand out cards and maybe 'up' that 2% call-back statistic done by so-and-so about time-share properties. By the way, stop living on statistics and attempting to push them on people. Especially when you try to compare apples to baseballs. It's disturbing. A few parting words: Regarding the opinion on the sign designs being cheesey, you hit the nail on the head. I had to comment on this because as soon as I read the part about the designs being created in 1985 on the earliest known image creation software, I had to nod (and laugh) in agreement. C-64 anyone? Johnny, aside from the all-too-common "Signtronix salesman aggressively mudslinging the customer personally" route, why is it that with EVERY Signtronix-backed rebuttal such as yours, the person posting has to break out into a name-dropping, statistic-loaded sales-pitch? Even when it has nothing to do with the problem at hand. That only reinforces the fact that you're pushy and 'programmed' with this strange, and obviously pre-scripted 'statistic defense'. It almost seems like a reflex that you seriously can not control. From what I have seen, the entire sales organization is probably the same way and that is not a comforting thought. Sophie, you are probably a wolf in sheeps clothing. Meaning you are probably involved with Signtronix but decided to try and come to the rescue and do so while remaining anonymous. Why else would you be here looking at Signtronix complaints? Or is it that YOU have too much time on YOUR hands and just like to browse all the complaints on this site and throw out your two cents 'here and there'? Two words: Pot... Kettle. Maybe you should open a business AND buy a Signtronix sign so you can find more constructive things to do with your free time. Oh, and it took me less than ten minutes to compose this. Just stating that so you don't waste your effort in an attempt to taunt me with any "... are far too busy to take the time to write a report in the length that you have... " Lastly, before the question is asked, I was not ripped off by Signtronix or any of it's sales people BUT I have a person close to me that was. I also had a firsthand look at the sales presentation on a seperate occasion and, putting it mildly, it was definately an interesting experience. After all that I have seen and heard, I have done a LOT of research into this company, it's sales organization, and numerous individuals involved. I know all too well what Adiago speaks of here and why it is stated for people to be wary. So for any person to say it is damaging for people to legitamately speak their mind, well you are either on the wrong side of the trenches, or you just haven't been ripped off by this kind of company... yet. If it is the latter, I will get some pleasure when you come here to complain when it finally does happen to you

I was under the impression that this site was for people who were mislead or ripped off. With what you've said, a salesman came in, he gave you a presentation, and you didn't buy the product. How were you ripped off? It's bothersome to me, that people write these reports, that can be damaging to others, based on a presentation? I know a lot of people in the restaurant business. The ones I know, are far too busy to take the time to write a report in the length that you have, based on just a sales pitch. Again, you must have a lot of time on your hands, if you listened to what probably amounted to an hour, knowing you weren't going to buy anything. Maybe you need a sign to bring in more business. Maybe you won't have so much time on your hands.

your brother is an ex car salesman well he should know who Joe Girard is or maybe if not look up his book How to close every sale as he was one of the greatest car salesman ever. Your right he should not have got all emotional but we all do sometimes and especially when we believe in our product because it is better then a flat words sign and works to help many businesses succeed just go check out the sba web site by the gov. with case studies as to how much explossive money signtronix signs make there customers. check out belmont auto spa that made a $135,000 in 1 year in addition to what they were making. And as far as leaving a card after the price has been givin and you have already had your meeting the likely hood of you guys buying a sign from him or any product for that matter from a salesmen latter on taken from a study done by piedmont marketing an expert on selling recreational time-sharing properties is only 2 percent ever call back and buy! so he did the right thing in going all or nothing to get you to commit to buy at the end of the presentation or to not buy from him but to wait till someone else comes to your town.
