I have a Chevy Blazer that is repeatedly blowing fuel pumps. After #3, I (no mechanic, for sure) deduced there is something wrong in the wiring system that is blowing these fuel pumps.
I have a son (250 miles away, or it would have been taken there immediately) who is a service manager for a GM Dealership. I phoned him , explained the problem, and he was kind enough to call the mechanic at Skellings and told him (step by step) what to look for and how to solve the problem.
This advice was not taken... in fact the vehicle sat for 10 days in the lot, not even looked at, because ,eveidently there was an unpaid labor bill from the second time it was in for a repair that lasted 2 days. I was not aware of any bill, since I never got one, and never got to drive it (it died before I could drive it).
Each time this vehicle went in to the shop, it was up to me to get it there, as they also have no tow truck. (Another irritation).
Twice in those 10 days, I was on the phone inquiring as to the status of the vehicle and no one told me of an unpaid bill. And in inquiring, I was told they were simply going to put in another fuel pump. When I called my son (the service manager) back and told him that...he was amazed. He said ..."what part of 'replace the harness and connector' did they not understand.
Today, I was told nothing was going to be done as long as there was an unpaid bill, whereupon I became agitated and had to hang up, as I was in tears. I have been inconvenienced for more than 5 months with this problem, and I called the nearest dealer (Stanley Chev. in Saranac Lake) They agreed with me there is definitely something causing these fuel pumps to burn out. They will take the vehicle in and fix it...however, it will cost me 75.00 to have it towed there.
I will gladly pay the towing fee....knowing it will be in a place where someone who is a trained mechanic will be able to fix the problem.
My advice....gas stations should provide gas.....service stations should provide SERVICE. This one did not, and when the best answer you can get is "I don't know whats wrong with it" that should be a big clue to look elsewhere.

steve skelling is a very nice guy. i am part of the family and i personaly know alot of people that liek steve. Pat you obviously dont know what you are talkin about because you had a bill to pay and you didnt so steve was doing his job. you are a liar! Alot of people would say that skellings auto is a great place to have your cars worked on MY advice...get your story straight

i know people tell me how nice they are at skellings who they let people charge and get cerdit thier i even heard people say hes worked for reduced prices and sometimes he worked on thier car for free cause they were poor, i never had my truck worked on by them but with all the good things ive heard about him was way b4 this report came out. they sound like nice people to me, i never meet mr or mrs skelling but from what i heard thier nice family

I have known the Skelling family for 10 years, im their sons babysitter and a close friend almost like family. You should know that your not the only one getting you car fixed and he my have had other people that made an appt. before you. Steve is an exelent mechanic. So is his partner!!! Steve has been abel to keep the garage open for as long as he has im sure that it wasnt him but you that made the mistake in not picking your car up when he had told you there was nothing he could do so you stop spreding lies about Steve!!!

Sir/Madam: You obviously need to re -read the complaint. I talked with Skellings Garage twice in the last ten days, and no mention was made of money owed. I found that out yesterday, Feb.3, 2003. And no one made any remarks about Steve Skelling. In fact, I have never had the opportunity to talk with Steve. He chose to let his 'mechanic' handle it. I am no liar , sir/madam.....and for you to make a comment like that is only a reinforcement of your ignorance of the situation. Rest assured, Mr. Skelling will get his money. He would have had it immediately, had I been given a bill.

Lady I read your story and you are a liar! I know Mr. Skelling not personally, but I do know of him on a business level and out of all the trash in this town, Mr Skelling is not part of that bunch. Steve Skelling is known in this town to be one of the on auto repairs. Everything Ive read on this web site about Sunmount, Jack Delehanty, to the Saranac Lake Police Chef Donald Perryman in Saranac Lake is all true. I was a village employee for many years, I should know. I even agree with the recent article on Mr Dewyea. I know his parents Mr and Mrs Dewyea, obviously the apple does not fall too far from the tree. And the comments about the Tupper Lake Free Press, thats right on the money too. You my friend are a liar. Mr. Skellling undercharges for his work in many cases. He is entitled to make money, but, when you dont bother to pick up your vehicle after they told you they could not do anything more for you, why didnt you just pick it back up and just pay your bill? Could it be you did not have the money to pay the bill? The people from Rip-off Report should know, that they have made a positive difference in our communities. I thank you and so do many others I know.
