After doing some research on the internet I decided to hire Ceci Sorochin to do the cover design for a novel I was in the process of designing at her firm, Sorodesign.  I felt that her work examples were creative and had a good vibe.

She claims to charge a flat fee of $1200 which she demands to be paid in advance.  I was concerned about this as I like to pay in parts but she absolutely assured me that I would not only taken care of but thrilled with the results.

She sent me the first round of book designs and I was horrified at how amateurish they appeared.  They looked nothing of the quality she showed in her online portfolio.  Having some art direction experience I sent her photographs to use as the basis with instructions as to how best to design what I was looking for.

There was a delay in the project as I was working with a group of editors who wanted parts of the book re-written.  I went back to her several months later and she told me that she was so busy that she would not be able to get back to my book design for eight to ten weeks that is unless I wanted to pay a premium.  I protested that the design was really done and just needed to be finalized.

Lucky for me another editing delay occurred so I did not have to fight her on dates.  I sent her all the information she wanted and she told me it would take her a couple of days to complete.  When I contacted her a week later she had some story about her computer crashing and that she was overwhelmed with other work and now it would take a week or two longer.  Honestly, I can't trust anything she says when it comes to dates.

Now I have to hire an artist at my own expense to do the work she was paid to do.  I would like nothing more than to sue her but being located in South America does not make it easy.  My advice, do not do business with anyone outside the USA and do not pay 100% upfront.  This is a red flag and shame on me!!

I have requested in writing her contact information as well as the name of her lawyer.  She has yet to respond and it would appear she is just hiding down in South America and hoping she can just fade away and continue her promise and then never deliver service after she takes all your money.
