I initially emailed to inquire as to whether Southern Animal Rescue does out of state adoptions. I'm in Jacksonville, they are in Atlanta. They said "Yes". Upon completing a background and reference check which according to Nikki "was perfect". I was waiting on either a local rescue to do a home inspection or a video conference, their vet had a spay opening for the 7th. No problem I'm thinking. Except 2 days later, between planning the web conference and ???, the dog's foster mother's newfound BFF, who apparently hadn't stopped by in 3 months "fell madly in love" with my pup and they "decided to let her adopt her so that she can stay local."  (Apparently they don't want to adopt out of state after telling me they did?)

Unlike other rescue organizations who have an ounce of professionalism, my adoption apparently wasn't as PENDING as I was led to believe. Any other reputable organization, once an application for adoption is filed, will put the pup in hold mode pending approval. Not this one. Nope.

After wasting my time filling out a lengthy adoption application, sending pics to my friends and family, having my references "checked", contacting the foster mother to discover the pup's personality traits and potential for service as a therapy dog....foster mama drama is all I can say. Must of been some BFF I guess, considering the pup was 3 mo old and BFF only just fell madly in love with her?  Apparently BFF doesn't stop by much.

This rescue is a 4-person circus sideshow. Pity for the pups and kits and a real pity for anyone attempting to adopt. Do yourself a favor and skip over this rescue. Since no other pups in the a 3-state area fit my needs, I've gone to a breeder. Didn't want to. All my kids are from rescue, this particular pup showed promise as a therapy dog. Southern Animal Rescue takes the cake on BS. I'd rather pay for a pup and know she's mine once selected than be bled along and get screwed.

But I guess I should take solace in Nikki's last asinine email: "Breeders are selling you a product for profit, so of course they make it as easy as possible. We are a very small rescues (just 4 people) and it is much easier for us to keep Hazel local." ...Rationalize it anyway you like...it's BS pure and simple. Passing the background and reference check was a cake walk. Pretty sure my driving 5 hours to pick up my pup wasn't such a burden on them, especially with the $200+ price tag. Funny thing, forgot to ever specifically ask the price.
