If the Kaiser's were patients in my office for many years & averaging $600 per visit, I would definitely look into refiling the insurance claims to get your exam fees. You did after all state that you later found out that they are eligible. I guess I would value their business more & give them a reason to stay by fixing the problem, than giving them a reason to go elsewhere & lose out on their family's business, not to mention all their friends & relatives who might do business with you. Blame is pointless in business, as it's mostly us the businesses that get the short end of it...Curious to see how this gets resolved....PS- I am also an owner of an Optical Shoppe & that's how (above) I have handled similar issues as to what you have referenced.

Company Information: Spare Pair Vision Centers 357 Route 9 South Manalapan, NJ 07726 (732) 972-2221 Customer Information: Mrs. Sandra Kaiser and Mr. Greg Kaiser Manalapan, NJ 07726 To Whom It May Concern, In response to Mrs. Kaiser's complaint, I appreciate your consideration in hearing our side of the story: Spare Pair Vision Centers booked three contact lens appointments for the Kaiser family for October 14, 2004. Prior to the examinations Mrs. Kaiser had not informed our staff of any insurance she had. When Mrs. Kaiser came into the store for the exams she presented her Cigna insurance card. These contact lens exams were performed in the evening after our insurance department was no longer available to check on her eligibility. Mrs. Kaiser insisted she had vision coverage with $ 10.00 co-pays. All three exams were completed, as well as contact lens fittings and only the $ 10.00 co-pay per patient was charged. It is the policy at all Spare Pair Vision Centers to inform our customers at the time of the exam that if there were a problem with billing their insurance companies then they are responsible for the balance. Each exam should have been $50.00. February 5, 2005 Mrs. Kaiser called asking if we received her check for Cigna Insurance Company. At that time it was discovered upon review of her file that her insurance was denied. When Mrs. Kaiser was told that she had an outstanding balance with Spare Pair and that we would like to be paid for the services rendered she became outraged. Hearing how upset Mrs. Kaiser was I offered a financial compromise of half price for the exams. Mrs. Kaiser immediately rejected this offer. She insulted me and slammed the phone down stating that it was not fair that she should have to pay for the exams and that we were withholding her money from Cigna. Mrs. Kaiser called Cigna Insurance complaining that the check was mailed to Spare Pair in error and they told my bookkeeper that the check was going to be stopped and re-issued to Mrs. Kaiser. To this date we have not been paid for the exams performed and have not cashed the check from Cigna Insurance Company. The balance owed to Spare Pair is $120.00 for the three exams ($ 40.00 balance per exam). Several weeks later Mrs. Kaiser's husband came into the store with her glasses that were now broken. I spoke with Mr. Kaiser and told him we would be HAPPY to replace the frame (which is under warranty) once she/he had paid the outstanding balance to Spare Pair. My staff is more then happy to help Mrs. Kaiser get reimbursed from her insurance company for the exams, which they informed us she is eligible for, if she sends them a paid receipt. However, we are no longer willing to accept the financial compromise on the exams that was previously offered. I do not feel I am being unreasonable about being paid for services that have already been rendered. Thank you for your time, Jeffrey Berkowitz Owner/President
