St. Vincent De Paul in Spring Hill, FL is a fraud. I witnessed employees claiming & taking donations for themselves before they even had a chance to hit the floor. They were unbelievably rude and unhelpful to my wife and I, who have donated to the organization in the past. We stood at the jewelry display section unwaited on for over 15 minutes as the elderly ladies behind the counter chit-chatted amongst themselves. They favor customers who they are familiar with as they allowed a woman behind us in line to CUT and after we had been standing at the jewelry waiting for assistance, decided to assist someone else that had just walked up. I will NEVER donate to St Vincents De Paul again. I have donated expensive antiques, clothing and jewelry, none of which I ever saw make it to the floor and I use to go there every day after work. SOMEONE there is taking anything worth money and it's not making it to where it should be - I donated to help those in need, not to have employees get the items.
I cannot get over how unhelpful and rude some of the ladies are that work there. They act like it is literally the worst part of their day when you ask to see something in the case. Why work there if you're not willing to interact or assist customers? If you want to chat or gossip amongst your lady friends, join a knitting club.
One time I was at the jewelry display alone, standing there becoming more impatient as the minutes past and the ladies would glance over as they were talking amongst themselves, clearly seeing me standing there waiting to be assisted, I finally spoke up, only for one of the woman who work there to say "Yup, hold on." and continue with the small-talk. I was listening to the conversation and it was NOTHING work related. Finally another woman walked up to the counter I had been standing at, it was only then that one of the ladies reluctantly got up and came over to assist (she had longer grey hair, neck length and her attitude was horrible), but to my surprise, she didn't even assist me, she chose to assist the lady who had just walked up! It appeared they were familar with one another, but that is just absolutely ridiculous.
Finally, when she decided she was ready to help me, I asked to see a ring. She took it out and stood there with it in her hand. I asked to see it to physically inspect it. She reluctantly gave it to me after taking forever to check it out herself, I looked at it and set it on the counter to continue looking and she picked it up and went to put it back in the case. I said "I may want that." and held my hand out. She didn't put it in my hand though, she held on to it... She said "Would you like me to put it at the register for you?" I said, I'd like to take a look at it and try it on, but there are other things I'd like to look at." The whole thing was just ridiculous. I'm a well dressed individual, my ring alone cost more then the average car. It's not like I look like someone who would steal. I just don't get it. I'm not the one working at a thrift store, so I'm confused as to why i was treated like this.
At the end of the day, the words that come to mind when i think saint vincent depauls in spring hill florida are fraud, liars, thieves, fraudulent charity, rude, unhelpful and a joke of an organization.
YOU St. Vincents will NO LONGER get any money or donations from my family.

I've since changed my view on St Vincent Depauls slightly. Although I was bothered by the way the woman behind the counter acted, I have since become more aquainted with their services and have somewhat more of an apprecation for them. I've had to go to their food bank on several occassions and I am grateful to St. Vincent for providing that service. I also recently had to use the services of another agency to help with a utility bill and we were connected through St Vincent's. I went overboard in the prior review and because I can't delete it, I wanted to take a moment to share some positive and new prespectives on the charity. St. Vincent's has been a valued community resource and I am very thankful to have them in my time of need.

I read a Ripoff Report from someone who called St. Vincent de Paul a fraud, it's employees thieves and listed a whole bunch of other negative things about the store. None of it was true, at least in my experience. I have shopped at the thrift store practically every week for the last six years.
We have quite a few thrifts in this area and St. Vincent de Paul has consistently been my favorite. Unlike Salvation Army or Goodwill all the people who work there are volunteers, which keeps prices low. The money the store makes helps to support the Food Pantry, which provides free food. The store also supports indigent families who need help with their utility bills, furniture and clothing.
"Lovely"who wrote the Ripoff Complaint (and didn't sound too lovely) complained that the employees took donations that were intended for the store and they never reached the floor. That may be true although how she would know I don't understand. Some of the donations go to a store at another location but if a "volunteer" sees something they like they pay for it at the same price as any other customer.
Lovely also complained that she didn't get waited on promptly enough to suit her. Did I mention the people working in the store are "volunteers" not "employees" and with her unlovely attitude I'm not surprised they were less than anxious to wait on her.
She also said she had donated valuable antiques and goods to the store and would not do it again. A donation is a gift, not a bargaining chip. Once an item has been donated whatever happens to it is no longer in your control. If it's an antique and you think it should make big money, sell it yourself and donate the cash. I have seen people try to negociate a lower price on an item that cost less than a dollar, at a thrift store! One man felt that since her had donated two bags of his dead wife's clothing he should be entitled to two pairs of brand new pants.
I'm glad "Lovely" has decided to take her business elsewhere. I'm sure the "volunteers" at St. Vincent de Paul feel sorry for the "employees" at the high end stores, but at least they are getting paid to listen to her abuse.
