I too am a victim and fell prey to Startup Essentials. Today around 2pm I was sleeping when I received a phone call from this pro of scam. What a slick talker. He told me that he had gotten my name and phone number from a web page that told me that I had won a free computer. He also told me that he understands that I was interested in starting a home business. Normally, I would have stopped the conversation there but I decided, "what do I have to lose?" If I knew then that the answer to that question was $6000, I would have hung up the phone asap. I guess I'm just like everyone else who lives paycheck to paycheck; I just wanted to earn extra money to make things financially easier on myself. The program sounded great; just want I was looking for. I went through all the things the rest of you went through: credit check, having the priviledge (ha) of being approved. I was rushed into the contract, signed, then was told how much my payments were and for how long. I believe it was something like $125 plus $14 shipping and handling. I thought the whole total would be about $200! So why don't they let you see the payment amounts before you sign?

After I got off the phone and had signed my life away with this non-cancel contract, I felt something terribly wrong. That's when I went on line and realized that my worst nightmare had come true. I had been scammed; not for hundreds of dollars but for thousands.

My "kit" is suppose to arrive by ups on Tuesday morning. I am notifying ups not to brother delivering it but to send it back to it's sender tomorrow. Also, I am stopping any payments to them and closing my checking account.

I don't know why but while my contract was still up on the screen, I saved it in my favorites. I have gone back to view it and it is now blank!!!

I am also one that cries out to anyone who can help to please help me. I am single and have no husband to help advise me on this matter. If any one else who has been scammed by this company wants to talk, I would greatly appreicate it. Also, I too want to know if anyone is taking action for a class action suit on this company. I would like to be included.

The man's name was Clay Abbey. Anybody else have him? If anyone has a remedy to this non-cancel contract without paying out $67, please share it with the rest of us who got scammed by this company. By the way, I asked him if they were a member of the Better Business Bureau and he assure me that they were.

There may be a ray of hope in a couple of ways for all of us who have been scammed by this place. There is a law called "the cooling off rule". You can cancel this contract for no reason at all if you act within 3 days of signing the contract. If you are passed the 3 days, you may still be able to cancel if you were not given a copy of your contract and if you did not have a written "right to cancel" notice with your contract. Visit the web site for the Federal Trade Commission for the Cooling-off rule, home solitation sales act. I'm not saying that you absolutely can get out of it but it is a good place to start. Also, check out what the Attorney General's consumer protection division has to say. I'm not promising anything. I'm simply saying that you should check these places out. Remember, we as consumers have protection rights. Also, I believe that I read something about that the buyer HAS to be told about his right to cancel by the seller or the contract might be void no matter how long it has been. Please, don't take my word for all of this, please check it out for yourselves to see if you have any hopes of getting out of all this. Also, please, let's help each other as much as possible. As the saying goes, "there is safety in numbers". We are all in the same boat. Let's stick together!
