StoresOnline brought their immpressively choreographed e-commerce website scam to the Hilton Metropole in Birmingham, UK yesterday 14-12-05. Looking back on the whole day it is easy now to see how they were setting it up right from the beginning: ID checks at registration (they wouldn't want any previously ripped off people turning up unannounced!) and their "consultants" being all being very large stockily built men (basically their own bouncers who may be needed if previously ripped off people had got into the workshop).

An important part of the Scam is to give StoresOnline the status and credibility that it really doesn't have. The big hotel chains unwittingly give an air of confidence to SOL's sale pitch, and the fact that the workshop was being held in such a prestigious venue and the promise of a free high class meal almost gives the scam a 'seal of approval' from the hotel chains.

The hotels that host most of their workshops and seminars all seem to to be very prestigious ones(Hilton, Holiday Inn etc.) and they would more than likely be unaware of SOL's unethical tactics and motives. With so many complaints over the years and some US States (TX) filing court proceedings against SOL, why haven't the big hotel chains been given the substantial evidence and complaints, and asked, in future, to refuse the hiring of their hotels conference facilities on the grounds of possible organised illegal practices taking place on their premises. If the Hilton Hotel found evidence and complaints of gangs operating brothels in some of their bedroom suites I'm sure the hotel would soon kick them out - so why not the StoresOnline gang of crooks?

Why couldn't large hotel chains worldwide have a list of SOL type scam companies (hopefully there wouldn't be too many) who have a proven history of worldwide complaints and refuse to allow their hotel to be an unwitting part of the scam? If their hotel chains were mentioned regularly in enough newspaper reports worldwide they might be more willing to see the negative effects on their image of holding such scam conferences. Has anyone done any research into how often the Hilton hotel chain worldwide, for example, has been hired by SOL for their scams over the last few years?

I know this idea may sound naive to some and that some will say that SOL will only go and hire different venues, but the point is that if the big, presigious venues refuse to be involved it will be left to smaller, less presigious venues to become unwittingly involved. With less prestige, the sales pitch might attract less people and therefore less scam victims. It would be a start in trying to decrease SOL,s ill gained profit.

SOL deal in marketing and are exceptionally good at it.

SOL deal in marketing a (false) dream.

Take away some of the fancy lighting and glamour of the venues and maybe people will start to see the lies more easily instead of being dazzled by the 'too good to be true' dream. And maybe some won't turn up at all because the food won't be as good!
