We contracted with Storm Guard Roofing & Restoration, Keller, Tx. in November 2011 to build a new patio cover and re-roof our house. Larry Cheatham and Darren Gouge are the people we had contact with.

We started making calls in January because we didn't hear from them. Calls were ignored. Finally Larry came to our house in March and in April the work started on the patio cover. Finished the cover except for the roof and haven't heard from them since. Ignoring our phone calls.

He has over $9,000.00 of our money and we still have no new roof on our house nor do we have a roof on the patio cover.

I would seriously recommend that you do not hire this company to do any work for you. They are scam artist!!

I have our notes in front of me as I type this. My husband and I started keeping notes from our first call to Larry on 1/12/12. Contract was signed on November 16, 2011. We were told 2 to 3 weeks by Darren Gouge. On 1/12/12 when my husband called Larry we were told that we were 1 1/2 to 2 weeks out from starting our patio cover. One patio cover before us to be done.

On 2/16/12 my husband called on got voice mail. Larry returned the call at 9 p.m. that night. Stated that he would call following week and start later in that week.

Left another voice message on 2/27/12 at 10:30 a.m.  On 2/28/12 I called Larry and he said he would come to see us  2/29/12 at 6:00 p.m. On 2/29/12 he called to cancel because he is sick. Rescheduled meeting to 3/1/12 at 7:30 p.m.
On 3/1/12 Larry called to say he has strep throat and had to cancel and said he would call tomorrow after going to the doctor. On 3/2/12 late afternoon I called Larry and got voice mail. Larry returned the call that evening. On 3/3/12 we finally scheduled  a time for Larry to come to our house. As of this point we have not met Larry, only talked to him on the phone. Larry came to our house about 4:45 on a Sunday afternoon on 3/4/12. He said that he will contact city hall regarding a permit and variance and get back to us by Wednesday, 3/7/12. Larry called on 3/6/12 and said he will call again by Thursday 3/8/12. On 3/8/12 Larry called and said there was no decision yet by the city.

I called the city on 3/12/12 and was told that NO record of a permit was filed. I called Larry and he said the plan had to be revamped and I reminded him that he said the project would start on 3/14/12 and he said that because of 4 days of rain that he couldn't and I reminded him that our contract was signed in November. How long were we supposed to wait. On 3/14/12 Larry submitted the plan to the city and brought a copy by the house.

On 3/16/12 I called the city and was told the plan was rejected. On 3/21/12 my husband spoke with 2 people at the the city office (I won't reveal their names here but I do have them) and he was told that the cover could exceed posts by 3 ft. max. On 3/27/12 I left a voice message for Larry to call us. On 3/29/12 we left another voice message for Larry to call us. On 3/30/12 at 7:45 p.m. my husband called Larry and he answered and said that he talked to the man at the city office and will be talking with him again on Monday morning 4/2/12 and will definitely advise us of the status.

On 4/2/12 Larry came to the house with the diagram after visiting city hall. On 4/4/12 at 5:10 p.m. we told Larry OK to go ahead with the job. The plan met our satisfaction. On 4/12/12 our old patio cover was torn down. Never was the concrete patio an issue. Never!  On 4/21/12 construction began on the patio cover and was finished on 4/29/12. On 5/1/12 Larry called early morning to tell us to leave the gate unlocked for the painter.

On 5/3/12 my husband called Larry and left  voice mail asking when the yard would be cleaned up and when are we scheduled for our roof. My husband left the house and when he came back the yard was cleaned up but no message about the roof.
Called Larry again on 5/7/12 at 8:30 a.m. and left a voice message asking when we were getting the roof! I called him on 5/9/12 and left a voice message saying that he had until Friday 5/11/12 to put the new roof on the house or I was calling the BBB and the local Fox 4 News Station, Saul Garza, What's Buggin' You. Also reminded him in the message that on 5/16/12 it will be 6 months that we signed a contract for this work!!

On 5/11/12 I filed a complaint with the BBB and contacted Saul Garza.

On 5/25 I sent Larry an email (had just come across his email address or I would have been emailing him sooner) asking when the hell he was putting our roof on!! He emailed me back saying that he was out of town and would call us on Tuesday. So when he says that we were scheduled for a roof on 5/28/12 (Memorial day) he was lying. According to him he wasn't even in town. He also said that he had texted me 15 or 20 times. I went online into my account and there are ZERO text messages from Larry. If someone doesn't respond to the first few text messages wouldn't you call them? Absurd!! And his response to my email was the first contact Larry made with us in the month of May!!

Our roof was finally put on on June 6th. So when you see the pictures he has put up of our roof and patio cover know that he has altered the dates!!! Oh, we have proof of when our roof was done. You see, I have a camera too and many neighbors who wondered why it was taking so long.

Oh, and the reason he got $400 extra was because it took him so long to do the job that the cost of supplies increased and the insurance company paid the extra cost!! Believe me, we wouldn't have given him an extra penny.

This is to inform everyone that the facts above are not true. We have done almost 14,00 roofs since we started our business and had not had a bad report submitted on us in any state. I would like for the person above to come up with the nesseccary paper work to prove their allications. this is how this job was done. We signed the contract ont his job in Nivember. At that time we told the Bertholds that we would be doing there job in january. We tried to submit for a permit on the porch and roof in january but we found out that the liento porch on the side of the house was built in the side easment. They had poured concrete and built the porch all the way to the property line.  This is against city county and state codes. So i started working with the city to correct this problem and not get the customer fined by the city.  I was able to this by submitting many sets of drawings to the city. The city wanted 6'6' of concrete removed from the side of existing concrete and keep the porch 6' 6'  back on the side of the property. I was finally able to find out that there was an ordiance in city file that allowed the overhand to be only 3'6" from property line.  At that point in April I was able to get the city to let me keep the concrete and move the post to 6'6" from the properyty.  Got permit finally on April 13. We have finished this job and the homeowner has paid us and even gave us 400.00 extra for doing such a good job. We have never scamed anybody and can furnish anyone with many refereances in any area if needed.  Customer installing his on fans not in contract.
