Horrible, horrible, horrible experience. Wish I would have read these before buying from this bonehead. I was looking for a outdoor speaker rock for Father's Day for my hubby. So I did a search and came up with a local business (Fort Wayne, Indiana), which I always try to support if I can. I went on a Friday and bought the speaker, when I asked if I could return it they (as I learned later was the owners Son and another employee) said absolutely as long as there wasn't any damage and in its original packing. So I purchased it. It wasn't what my husband wanted, so I went to return it. I was greeted by a very unfriendly, and I use that term very loosely, Owner. He was very quick to tell me there will be a $15.00 restocking fee. I told him that was not mentioned to me on Friday when I specifically asked that question. He then got very hostile and told me he was within his rights it was posted everywhere on his website. When I told him I walked in, I didn't go thru the website, he could have cared less. I was treated so terribly I began to cry...

I looked at my receipt also and nowhere on the receipt does it mention a $15.00 return fee.

The words I really wanted to use, wouldn't come out. My Christian values wouldn't allow me to give him a piece of my mind and tell him what he can do with his "return policies".

I paid the $15.00, and it's taken me a week to write this without being nasty. I have since gone out to his website and beware he has a lot of charges built in at inflated rates.

I appreciate that you allow businesses to post a rebuttal to these comments. One sided complaints almost always are distorted to make the customer look better. Here are the facts from our point of view. This customer did in fact come in and order a speaker from my company. We are a wholesale company and do 99% of all our sales online. Recently we have allowed local customers to come in and order in person. When they do, we do tell them that they are still required to read the term & conditions of the sale. When she asked if she could return the product, we did in fact tell her that she could return it if it was in the original package and the term and conditions would still apply. When she came to return the speaker, she did not have her receipt nor was it in the box. In these circumstances we issue a $15 restocking fee. And yes, the owner ended up needing to be stern with the customer, but that was because she was being unruly. She wanted something for nothing and just came in demanding a full refund. She would not listen to the customer service rep when he told her that she needed her receipt and box. She was getting in his face and that is when the owner came in to back him up. She was basically told no and she did not like that. We are not a retail operation and do not have the costs built in to cover the time it takes our employees to find new packaging, retrieve receipts, etc. In this economy, we can't eat all of these costs or we would be putting our company in jeopardy. We are not a large retailer and people need to understand that small businesses can't operate in the same way. As for a restocking fee, a lot of major retailers are starting to issue the same fees on larger ticket items.
