Complaint Review: Sundance Drug & Alcohol Rehab - Scottsdale Arizona

This is in regards to the Sundance Drug and Alcohol Rehab Center located in Scottsdale.  This company is money driven and only cares about their bottom line.  From the owners mouth, "All we care about is keeping the clients in the facility for the full twenty eight days and sober for those day and then after that they are not our concern."  Not only do they only care about the mkney but thete website is full of false advertising.  They make promises they cant and dont keep.  This is not a safe facility!!!

First to start the meals shown on their website i have never seen served.  I never saw a nutricianist and if you want to to see one they charge you a $200 fee for that.  You see the actual pychiatrist once and then if you want to see him again the charge you around $200 each time for that.  They have another doctor there but he is only around every once in a while, so they were always having to make calls to him for clients.  You would think that since they are prescribing medication and controlled meds at that that they would at least have a nurse practicianer or doctor on staff at all time.  If an emergency happens then they have to drive you to the Emergency Room at Shea Hospital which is about ten miles from the house.  

They treat clients very differently depending on your pocket book.  I have seen this first hand.  The people they know have the money they try to keep them longer, the ones that they know cant pay for extras or more they treat and get in and out.  

As far as the facility and its amenities the are very sub par.  They state they have jacuzzis.  When i was there neither of them worked and one they ripped out.  They then ripped out the grass in one area and replaced it with artifical turf which you cant even walk on because it will burn you.  They keep the air conditiining way too hot.  The air in the retreat house was so hot that you couldnt sleep or would wake up drenched iin sweat.  All the clients in the house had to complain for over a week to get them to even begin to do something about it.  Then come to find out that it had to be replaced.  The air is on a timer and will go on for about twenty minute and then off for two hours.  The clients cant adjust it, it is controlled in the office by computer so yiu are always uncomfortable.  Next some of the matresses in the rooms werebover twelve years old and some were stained with urine and just flipped over to cover the stain.  It was only when one of the clie ts complained numerous times was anything done about it. 

Next let me talk about the medications.  You go in there to get clean but endup on more than you came in on unless you refuse.  However most dont because you think the doctor would know best.  NOT!!!!!!!!!!  They have had numerous clients in there that were very abviously out of there scope of practice.  Meanjng mentally not stable and a danger to the other clients. But then again its just all about the money.  There was one client in there that threatened bodily harm to other clients.  This client also put ball bearings in blueberries that were served  to eat.  Ine of the cooks there under cooked food and ended up giving the majority of the house food poisoning.  And one the GR's who are there to look after all of us, ended up stealing items from more than ine client.  They transport us by a van to outside functions, however when there is a full house they use this van and pack everyone in, so there arent enough seatbelts for evrryone, which is highly illegal.  

They had problems with clients bringing drugs in and sneaking around to each other rooms.  So to solve that problem they decided to put in cameras all over both houses.  However, they dont bother to tell you that they are also recording conversations that you are having.  Meaning all conversations with other clients in the house, your therpist, or what have you.  Which according to state law they are not allowed to do without informing you that you maybe recorded or that they are a party to.  Which when you are having a conversation with another client in the house they are not a party to that conversation.  They violate HIPPA law constantly.

The doors to the office say employees only, however you can see in these doors.  Not to mention that there are cleaning crew, workman and others walking through the office all the time.  There is paperwork and notes with client information laying and posted on filing cabnets all over the office in that facility.  From one of our meetung rooms therebis a door that leads to the office where we go if we need to speak to someone there.  From that door you can see notes about clients posted on cabnets.  From the outside windows you can see clients names, the date they came in and dates of expected departure on this huge computer screen.  

Their accreditation is a joke.  While being in there they had a person from JHACO, which is the joint commission, come and do an evaluation.  They new exactly when this person was coming, so it gave them pmenty of time to fix things the joint commission woildnt approve of.  The peraon who came from JHACO really didnt seem to care, it just seemed like he wanted to hurry and get done and out of there.  Once the gentlemen left, of course like clockwork things went back to the way they were before he got there.  It was very convienent for Sundance.  

So needless to say, this place was the biggest waste of money, which i plan on fighting yo get back.  But it also was totally unethical, filthy, not what was prom
