Swift Transportation Unfair in Empolyee Relations *Consumer Suggestion
I was employed with Swift Transportation from November 2000 to Jan 2001. I was told the Friday before Christmas, 2000, that the company was downsizing and to keep my job, I'd have to work as the receptionist for 3 dollars less an hour.
I had only been hired the beginning of November 2000. I questioned the Operations Manager about the 3 young men who had been hired after me and was told that they had experience (I had several years trucking experience with Yellow Frieght and and independent trucking company in south Texas) and felt I had more experience doing the same job the young men were doing (driver managers).
The operations manager told me to think about the cut in pay and position and talk to the Terminal Manager after Christmas when he came back to work and give him my decision.
When I talked to the Terminal Manager, he said I was laid-off and that the receptionist postion was not available either. I believe I was discriminated against because I was a woman and that the other job offered was rescinded because I questioned why the "young" men were left in their original position and I was being laid-off.
I was told also that there would be at least 10 other cuts, and from what I determined, there were no other cuts in staff.
