As a FORMER T-Mobile customer...

I would have to say that in spite of the claims of a credit limit that T-Mobile carries as policy, they still also fall prey to system errors or other sorts of anomalae that greatly, and negatively affect customers.  Case in point -

$4,370 phone bill, from early 2003.

I have STILL not received resolution on this, and is again showing up on my credit report as a delinquency.  How is a $4,370 mobile phone bill possible, you may be wondering?  Well, I am as well.  After repeated attempts at resolution directly with T-Mobile and having been passed from desk to desk by customer service representatives and not being given any explanation or documentation, I am exasperated and have FINALLY filed a BBB complaint.  Yes, it's 2010.  However, the 'delinquency' went off my credit report in 2004 after using many avenues of resolution.  It resurfaced last year after being pushed to a collection agency who may have just bought the "debt" and re-instated collection action.

$4,370???  T-Mobile rep -do you have ANY possible idea how that is possible?

I have been a T-Mobile customer for 6 years now and have NEVER had a problem with them. When I was billed toll charges once, they were able to point me one to my contract and two, to my calling plan area to help clear a conflict. They have always been courteous. Best of all, my calling plan is excellent and thus far, I have yet to see anyone that has come close to beating it. I pay $49.99 a month for 3000 anytime minutes and unlimited nights and weekends for life (not sure what that means, but I NEVER go over my minutes with this plan). Still loving T-Mobile...

In fact... is cheaper than most of its competition

T-Mobile is cheaper than most of its competition. It is rated in the top 2 in its market for customer service by JD Power. As an employee who deals with customers on a daily basis, I can assure that accounts are not accessed without being fully verified by the customer. T-Mobile uses an automated system for billing, call logs, etc. There is no manual interaction on an account unless the customer has verified the account information and is requesting changes either through a dealer, at My T-Mobile.com or customer care. If a bill is higher than expected, there is always a reason. It is usually a misunderstanding on the part of the customer because customers don't read the information they are provided with when they start their service or information they receive in the mail regarding their account. AKA a bill. T-Mobile in fact bills a month behind rather than in advance. However, if a customer on a SmartAccess (for customers with bad credit which has a set spending limit) account incurs overage (going over their free minutes, text messages, etc.), they will be expected to bring their account below the spending limit. This only happens AFTER the overage is incurred. If the spending limit is exceeded, the service is suspended until a payment is made. It's just like a credit card. Once the credit limit is reached, you can no longer use the card.
