Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
Today I received a call from 1(800)620-0371, seeing how I was at work I did not answer the call.  Upon listening to the voice mail that was left I returned their call.  I initially thought that it was for the person that had my number before me.  Unfortunately not.  Unlike what I have already read they asked me if I was so and so, and it was me by my maiden name, and asked me if I lived at a certain address, which is my parents address. So at that point I was getting pretty nervous.

They told me they were calling in regards to a debt that I owed to BMG Music and that the debt had been sent to collections.  They told me that I owed the company from an account I had in 2007.  Unfortunately around 8 years ago or more I actually did buy cd's from this company but I paid for the cd's, so I have no idea what they are talking about.  Especially since there is no chance that I bought cd's in 2007 so I don't even know where they got that date.  They say that I owe around $60, I know it's not much money but I'm not in the business of paying for things that I have no idea what it is for.

So the lady I talk to is willing to listen to me and I tell her I have no knowledge of any debt being owed to that company.  She responds by asking if anyone could have bought any cd's in my name without my knowledge.  I say I guess it is possible but I really don't think that they would.  She tells me, "well someone did and now you owe and if you don't pay we will send it to collections."  I tell her I'm willing to work with her if she can send me a list of what I purchased that proves that I owe money.  She takes down my address and says that she will send it.

I start freaking out because I know I do not owe them money.  I contacted my mother and she says that no one purchased any cd's in my name.  So I start looking up BMG Music online and find a large amount of complaints against this company and against the collections company that is contacting me.  I started reading that some people ignored this companies calls to a point where it is on their credit statement and that they have not been able to get rid of the blemish even after they pay.  Or they pay and than the company calls months later saying they still owe money and have no record of the person ever paying.  And eventually ends up on their credit score.  So even more unsettled by this I pull my credit report.  So far there is no mark of debt owed on my credit report from this company but it shows that the collections agency did request my credit report.  So now I am at a level beyond frustration.

So anyone thinking about ignoring these calls, don't do it.  They do have access to your credit report, which leads me to believe they have the ability to affect your score.  Tomorrow I am contacting my credit reporting company and contacting the FTC.  I really hope I figure this out and that I am right about all of this.  If anyone has gone against them and won please contact me. I really don't want to have to get an attorney to try to fight this.
