Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

I had purchased an Xbox one game at Target Along with an xbox console, a controller, and three other games. It was suggested to me by a store employee. He said that it was kind of like Minecraft So we purchased it. Christmas morning my seven year old son opened all of the xbox stuff and wanted to play. The game that was suggested to us by the Target employee was a junk game that had no point. It was nothing like Minecraft. this game cost $40. I have the reciept and the game. I took it back to Target. The Target employees said that since the game had been opened that i could not return it. I could only exchange it for the same exact game. I could not get a refund or get another game for the same price. I was so mad that i left and went to Gamestop and sold this game to them for $1.50. I bought my son a new game at game stop. Target does not stand behind their products or the products that they sell. They take your money and they are done with you.  THANKS ALOT FOR NOTHING TARGET. I will no longer be shopping there. We spent at least $900 on gifts for my family. You cant exchange a $40 game. Wow that is bad business. Take care of your customers and they will take care of you. Don't bite the hand that feeds you.

With all due respect and to take this in the nicest way possible, I do want to thank you for bringing a great laugh to my day for your "RipOff".

The game that was suggested to us by the Target employee was a junk game that had no point. It was nothing like Minecraft

- And Minecraft has a point?

Anyways just thought that was very funny, as for the rest of your report what you are describing a policy that every store that sells Video Games, CD's, DVD's..etc has had for at least the last 15-20 years.  That is once it is opened it can only be returned for the same title.  The reason is a fairly simple one, in that because these items are so easy to copy, many people would buy the title, take it home, copy it, and then return it...keeping the copy they made.

Also, here is a bit of information on Game Stop's return policy.

Directly from the Gamestop Web Site....

http://www.gamestop.com/gs/help/Returns.aspx

Returned product(s) must be in the original packaging and include any manuals, cabling and accessories in sellable condition. We reserve the right to limit returns to unopened or defective products. Defective product(s) will be replaced with a like item, upon return. Terms and conditions of manufacturer's warranty apply to defective video games systems and computer hardware after 30 days.

We do not accept returns of:

  • Any product(s) returned more than 30 days from the date on the packing slip.
  • Any product(s) that has been opened (taken out of its plastic wrap).
  • Any product(s) not in its original condition.
  • Any product(s) that is damaged, played, or is missing parts.
  • Any product(s) that were sold as part of a bundle, unless the bundle is returned complete.

I underlined the section that may be of interest to you.

Oh and if you still don't believe me.  Just try and take that opened "NEW" game you bought at Game Stop back to them asking for a refund.  Just don't be shocked if it isn't the answer you like.

What sad is that YOU don't realize that what YOU were trying to do IS a scam. See roughly 15 years ago it was found that consumers would buy then "rip" games and then return them. So that means that the unique code imbedded in ALL games couldn't be used IF it was returned. It was during THAT time that ALL retailers chose to protect themselves by ONLY offering an exchange for the EXACT same game. Im sorry YOU got a crappy game but this IS NOT about customer service. I can only assume that this is the first time YOU have owned a game system or this is your first time with a "bad" game. While YES it sucks when you get a bad recommendation, it IS NOT their fault. YOU chose to follow the recommendation. In no way were YOU forced to buy ANYTHING!!!!! So due to YOUR CHOICES and the policies about software has caused this. Its even on the back of their receipts. Did you read that?? No probably not. Its SOOOOOOOO much easier to get online and rant and blast then to admit that YOU couldn't even be bothered to read your receipt. STOP trying to play the victim, it doesn't look good when you have in essence made a fool of yourself online. This is COMMON PRACTICE with ANY company that sells "software". You ONLY get an exchange and NOT a refund. Had you read the receipt BEFORE you had a problem you could have at least been informed of what YOU are able to do. Once YOU were told NO, YOU got all indignant and self important and came on this site. But it was ONLY due to your ignorance of the law and policies WITH software that has gotten you to this point. Not every game is a gem and sometimes you run into these situations. In the future, RESEARCH!!!!!!! You have enough skills online to be able to blast THEM for YOUR ignorance. One would think that you could also type in the name of the games YOU are interested in purchasing and read the reviews.
