Telecheck AKA First Data Check denied for absolutely no reason Houston, Texas Nationwide
I tried to write a $30.00 check at Valero Corner Store and my check was denied by Telecheck aka First Data. I was forced to use my credit card. I called my bank and was told that my funds were sufficient to cover the amount and I've never writen a hot check so I was confused. I called the 800 number and gave them my denial #. A recorded message said the problem had been corrected and I could now write checks. I wanted a better explanation and called Telecheck's so-called customer service rep who felt like they were entitled to every bit of personal info I possess... SS# (which I refused), bank account #, address, moms maiden name, telephone # etc...She informed me that another account at a different bank had problems and that somehow my name was linked. I thought it might be an old acct. from my ex mom-in-law. I said I'd contact the bank. She said it would do no good becase I had to to through them to correct the situation. I said I wouldn't go to any place where Telecheck was established and she said that they represented 3000 merchants so I really had no choice. I said great that's 3000 places I won't be going. She was rude and demanding and felt entitled to ask me any personal question and when I questioned her need to know my private info actually acted insulted. Now I feel really uncomfortable that I gave her all my information.
