The Register Mike Danby and Mike Dowler Paid 345euros to become a member of a local services directory.Then they dissapeared. At least 6 others I know have also been scammed. Limassol Cyprus
Applied to become a 'member' of a local services directory. Basically, you or your company become a member of this directory and pay an annual fee of 345 euros.
The idea is that once the public is informed of the directory (by local radio & newspapers) they would choose the service they required (eg plumber, painter, computer engineer etc) and then the rogue company (they called themselves The Register) would contact the relevant registered member to carry out the job.
They would only accept one type of service to be registered in each town so as to be fair to that service.(ie if I had a plumbing service in Limassol and I wanted to 'advertise' my services via The Register, I would be promised that I would be the only plumber advertised in my town. This proves that The Register is a scam as I have not received ONE phone call in the 8 months I was with them.)
I also know of at least 5-6 other people that have had the same problem. We have all tried calling/emailing the two founders of the company many times but have had no luck. Incidentally, a friend of a friend had recently told me that he had also been scammed by the same company very recently, which means they are STILL scamming people left right and centre.
The scammers (Mike Danby and Mike Dowler) are both very well-spoken expatriate gentlemen from the UK and are in their 60's/70's and were living in Limassol although I have heard rumours one of them is now living in Larnaca. They used to frequent the Surf and Sun, Woodmans, Wembley and Johnny's Pubs all in Limassol.
They have not realised that Cyprus is a very small island and they cannot really hide anywhere. They WILL be found out sooner or later. I urge any others that have been scammed by this duo to also write in to this website. Even though I have already reported them, once we get a decent amount of people we'll go as a group and report them to the local authorities.
