My sister and I consigned over 500 antique dolls from my mother's estate to Theriaults in Nov. 2010.
they sent a representative (Suzie ) to pick the dolls up. we were told it would take 12-to possibly 14 months to market all the dolls, choosing the appropriate auction to bring the best price.

We were told that we would receive copies of  catalogs that featured any of our dolls. we were told we would not be paid until all dolls were marketed. Which was to occur within 14 months maximum.

I began to contact Theriault's after 14 months to try to get an accounting. I called them repeatedly (at least 10 times). i was told repeatedly by the receptionist that I would get a return call from Nelly is consignment.   I was never transferred to speak to Nelly. I eventually got a call from Nelly indicating that the dolls were not yet all sold. This was 18 months after they
picked up  the dolls.  I was told to call back in 2-3 weeks. I did so 8 times, leaving messages each time, before receiving another call from Nelly. At that time I was told that approx. 75% of the dolls had been sold....although she could not give me any answers to the value of the dolls sold or when the rest would be marketed. I was told that was up to Florence Theriault, the founder of the company. I was told AGAIN to call back in a few weeks.

I did so again and was unable to reach Nelly...she was either out of the office, at an auction, or i was simple told she would call me back.  I left numerous messages for her AGAIN.

In mid august Nelly finally called and told me the last 2 dolls were set for auction on august 19th and we would receive a full accounting and check within 35 business days.  Well after 39 business days,  I again began to call the company. Surprise...Nelly was not available again,  I left 3 more messages.

At this point it is now 24 months since they picked up the dolls.

After numerous more unreturned calls I insisted on speaking directly to Florence.  i was told she was on a another line.  I insisted on being put on hold for Florence. after being disconnected 5 times I finally got through to her. She promised to look in to the problem and call back the following day. She did call back the following day and gave me the excuse that their was another consigner with my name and that Nelly had confused the two of us.  RIGHT!

Florence then told me that all the dolls were sold and that checks  and a full accountingwould be mailed out by the end of the week.I spoke to her on a Tuesday, it is now 5 business days since the checks were supposed to be mailed and we have yet to receive anything.  Once again Nelly the receptionist will not put my calls through to anyone..and no one has returned my calls.

We are now prepared to file a lawsuit.  DO NOT CONSIGN TO THERIAULT's .   This company must be having financial problems and are using peoples money to keep afloat.

We are of course never happy when a consignor seems to face difficulties with the process of having their dolls sold through our services.

As the global leader in this industry and a firm who handles between 500-1000 consigners per year - with over 30,000 transactions resulting - we pride ourselves in having very few complaints in relation to this process which, at times, can be a complex one in working towards the satisfaction of both buyers and sellers.

With that said, this consignment was handled in the normal course (and as contracted) however some collections, whose dolls consist of more common and typical types (as was the case here) of which the market is inundated with at this time, might require extra time in order to find buyers.

I assume that since this post was written - the check and reports were received and that not having them in 5 days after speaking to Mrs. Theriault was not a reason for concern in the normal course of the mail.  In fact, Mrs. Theriault rushed the process for you as a courtesy prior to the consignment actually closing as it was still in auditing under our terms.

In regards to the confusion over the names - this was in fact the case.  Your last name, which is not shown here, is quite common and we had two with identical consignor codes that created confusion in our system in Mrs Theriault personally getting this processed through for you early.

Finally, your statement regarding Theriault's and financial information is not only false but far from reality and a comment that we suggest you re-think. This year we have completed nearly 30,000 transactions with sales nearing $12M making 2012 the most successful in the the company's 42-year history.

We wish you the best of luck in your hobby of dolls for the future and the continued joy of collecting.
