On July 4, 2015 I took my car in for an oil change and a new battery.  I received a call indicating what the cost of the new battery would be and instructed the representative (L Barber, Jr.) to proceed with the installation.  Upon arriving a short time later to pick up my car I was given the total amount of the charge which seemed high.  After questioning the total cost I was advised that they added undisclosed service charges to the bill.  I calmly explained that they had not previously disclosed this service charge and it was not fair to charge me something that they had not been disclosed.  Jim Foster (the manager) proceeded to tell me that they "always charge a service fee" and it was not anything new.  I told Jim numerous times that it was not disclosed and it's not fair to add on undisclosed charges.  He continued to insist that they always charge a fee, which I continuously tried to point out that it was not disclosed.  The other manager (L Barber, Jr. ) said to me that "you didn't ask for the total price".  I rebutted that I did in fact ask for the total price and he gave it to me, exclusive of the service charge.  Not once did they acknowledge that they did not disclose the hidden service charge, rather simply said that "they always charge it".   They eventually became extremely confrontational with me and called me a "baby" at which time I promptly left the store.  Their actions were totaly unprofessional, rude offensive, and downright criminal.  They violated numerous consumer protection laws, which is why I am writing this complaint.

This store is purposely hiding service charges and not disclosing the FULL cost of a job. This is not the first time this has happened to me and shame on me for going back.   BE CAREFUL of the managers at this store, and their deceptive trade practice.

No question that it is a deceptive billing practice

I learned the hard way, many years ago, to not trust anything that auto repairmen say about pricing. If you look at the invoice/bill, you will see a section that states (paraphrased below):

Please read carefully, check one of the statements below and sign:

I understand that, under state law, I am entitled to a written estimate if my final bill will exceed $100.

____ I request a written estimate.

____ I do not request a written estimate as long as the repair cost does not exceed $____. (fill in the blank). The shop may not exceed this amount without my written or oral approval.  (suggest striking out 'or oral' as it is a license to steal too)

____ I do not request  written estimate.

Signed:___________________  Date:______________

In my experience the best course of action is to require a written estimate. Then there are no discrepencies between what they said orally and what they charge you in writing.

By the way, I'm not blaming you, the original author, at all. I blame the entire industry for being deceptive in their practices.
