Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

I was seeking a personal loan from a private lender and received an immediate response from someone named Tony Wilson in Newark, NJ. After a lot of back and forth via text message, Tony explained that we needed to meet in person for him to transfer the loan to my account and go over the terms. This seemed more legitimate than handing over my personal information to someone over the phone so I agreed to meet him in Newark - a 2 hour long drive each way which he knew.

At first he asked me to meet him at his resident (243 Osborne Terrace, Newark NJ)but I asked if we could meet at a public place instead to be safe. He agreed to meet me at the Dunkin Donuts near his house (226 Elizabeth Avenue Newark NJ). We agreed to meet at 8pm and I texted him right when I arrived. He said he was running late and kept pushing back our time further and further until the Dunkin Donuts was about to close.

He then called me and asked that I just come to his house because he was running late, having car issues, and knew the Dunkin was about to close. I told him I did not feel comfortable doing this as it's not a great neighborhood but figured I could drive by and see what the location looked like.

As I was driving towards his residence, the car behind me started flashing their lights signaling me to turn into the street where Tony lives. I decided not to turn down his street and kept driving forward which is when Tony immediately texted me saying I was supposed to make that turn that I drove by.

1. he said he was having car issues, so how could he have been driving behind me

2. he clearly had been watching me at Dunkin Donuts to know what I looked like and what car I was in

3. he had not intention of ever meeting me in a public place and was trying to lure me down his one way street to likely rob me or worse.

After I texted him back and told him I would not be coming there, he got very irate and kept telling me to just come back and he would make the loan happen.
