I purchases a gown off of Tradetang.com.. what a waste of time and money. The purchase price was 98$ i had to wait 4 weeks to get, when they promised 8 -10 business days. It looked ABSOLUTELY nothing like the picture, it was CHEAP material the embroidery looked as if it had been glued on. As soon as I got the merchandise i tried to get a refund and the (money back garuntee) is all BULL. When i complained to get my money back tradetang customer service did nothing about it. I had been warned before about over seas purchase but i had no idea. Also I think if I hadn't emailed suplier once a week I would have never gotten my dress. DO NOT USE CHINA DIRECT WHOLESALE unless you want a dollar store dress.

Avoiding being ripped off is not easy unless you know where to begin. Here are some helpful tips:

1. Do not buy merchandise from a seller that has only a cell phone. If a hard line is given, call it to be sure it is not a payphone in Tianamen Square. Cell phones are not traceable.

2. Do not buy merchandise from a seller lacking a brick and mortar address - this means they are operating out of a remote warehouse selling knock-off merchandise. Verify that the address given is legitimate by calling the hard line telephone number listed.

3. Sellers advertisement pictures can be copied from other sources as were the pictures of the American made guitars I was supposed to receive but instead was sent counterfeit fakes. (I found the exact same ad and photos by a different merchant on DH Gate).

4. Find out what the sellers refund policy is and how much of the original purchase price will actually be refunded. In my case I was offered only a partial refund, the remainder went to pay for the sellers "free shipping".

5. Find out who pays to return the merchandise back to China if you are dissatisfied. Most likely it will be you and the cost of doing so may actually exceed any refund offered. On a nearly $800 purchase order, I was offered a refund of $300 and would have to pay $450 to ship it back. You do the math.

6. Feedback ratings can be rigged to show only positive ratings and little is known where the ratings come from. Merchants deal differently with consumers in China than they do outside their borders since repercussions in country are stiff.

7.Pay only with a credit card dedicated for this purpose with set limits you can be sure will not be exceeded. Do not use Western Union since they do not offer any consumer protection - they are only a money transfer service. PayPal will not protect you outside of e-bay. Never ever give out your bank information directly to a merchant.

8. Do not spend more than you can afford to lose. If you are still determined to order from TradeTang, make it is a small order to judge quality. Be prepared to "eat it" since you cannot recoup your loss by reselling the merchandise on e-bay. They will not allow you to sell counterfeit merchandise despite what others may say and you will lose your selling privileges. Legitimate manufacturers watch this site for fakes and will file a lawsuit for copyright infringement as well if you try to sell here.

Best advice is to avoid this site altogether unless you are willing to accept substandard merchandise. When in doubt - go without.
