My mother passed away in December and I inherited her bedroom set. She lives in New Jersey and I live in Texas. I, like many others, searched the Internet for reputable, moderately priced movers to bring the bedroom set to my home.

I received many bids and spoke with a great many individuals. I decided on Advanced Moving. I had also received a quote from Transworld Moving. When I told Ashley, the rep from Transworld that I was going to go with Advanced, she suggested that I read the BBB report on Advanced. Well, I was very glad I did! They are horrible. Anyway, I contacted Ashley and thanked her for steering me away from those rip-off artists. I placed my order to have the bedroom furniture picked up on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003.

I received a call on Friday, 2/21/03 from one of the movers. He needed directions to my mother's house. He said he was from ADVANCED MOVING!! I immediately called Ashley and got the answering machine. I left a message. Of course, this was Friday after 5:00pm Florida time and she was gone.

The movers came to my mother's house and got the furniture as well as a deposit check in the amount of $600. During the course of the move, I spoke with a dispatcher and told him I didn't want any shrink rap, etc. Padding and blankets should be sufficient coverage for the furniture. There were also some pieces of furniture (couch, end table) that my brother GAVE to the movers.

The furniture was picked up and I was promised the 7-10 day delivery time. On Monday (2/24)I called Ashley and asked her about the connection between Transworld and Advanced. She then tells me Transworld needed to sub-contract my job out. I then told her that I should have been informed of this and that she did so without my prior knowledge and/or permission.

The other thing is that the drivers left a message stating that there was going to be an addition charge for "boxes" etc. I was faxed the Bill of Lading and yes, indeedy, there are additional charges for 60 boxes @ 2.00 per box (there were no boxes to be moved or any packing that needed to be done)plus charges for additional cubic feet at $6.95 per sf while I was quoted $4.88 per sf.

I called Advanced on Monday, 3/3/03 and was told "a couple of days." That was 4 days ago. It is now day 10 (either business or calendar) and I've not heard from any movers as to when my furniture will be arriving.

I have read the horror stories from others such as myself who have dupped by these crooks. What will it take to stop them? How is it that the ICC, DOT, etc. still gives them a license? What can we do???

I pray that we get ALL our furniture returned to us in the same condition it was when Advanced/Transworld picked it up. I'm not out to be greedy but these jokers need to be stopped.

I welcome any and all suggestions. Good luck to us all!
