Travel Van Lines quoted my move last April for $4200.  The movers showed up just in time on the moving day in May.  We were moving from Delaware to Austin, TX.  My husband had already moved.  We had agreed to with John the salesman to store the items in a temp controlled facility in Dallas, TX for 3 weeks (one month being "free").  They were to be delivered mid June.  And if they were in Dallas, only 3 hrs away that should not be a problem.  "Just call us a day in advance and they will be there the next day."

I started to get a very bad vibe when  they showed up with NO pads, NO two wheeler, NO dollies, and NO wrapping materials.  They only had the cheapeest packing tape made on earth.  That when it sticks to wood or anything leaves a very hard to remove sticky film.  They used my blankets and packers saran wrap.  They said do not worry they would re-wrap everything when they got back to the warehouse in NJ.  Not to mention only one guy spoke English and he was Turkish and very disrespectful of my mother and I. (Supposedly he was fired after I complained about him to Richard)

They said that we had way more than they expected and the new quote was $9500.  I could not believe it.  Nothing I could do except deal with it at the other end. (A whole other nighmare!!) The goods were never sent ahead to Dallas.  They were sitting in NJ in a NOT temp controlled warehouse in 100+ degree heat.  That crappy tape stuck to all my furniture and plastic bins.  I had to wait 2 weeks.  They wanted cash before they would unload the truck.

Another poor English speaking driver hired guys from Craigs list that morning.  When they opend the truck I could not believe what I saw.  Nothing had been repacked or padded.  Things were literally thrown in. My king mattress and box springs were filthy.  Quite a bit of my furniture was broken and damaged.  As I opened boxes I fept finding broken things.  Not to mention the amount of items that were missing.  Whole boxes of goods.  They never did an inventory check list as they took things off the truck.

They stole my $100+ two wheel hand truck.  That was the last straw.  I kept calling the company every day and no one has gotten back to me.  I called every day for 4 months.  No luck.  And I refused to send the original papers to the claims company.  I had no recourse.  Knowing my 9 months are coming up to file a claim I went on the web yesterday to get more info on the company and the website no longer exists.   Now I am going to reach out to the DOT.  But it looks like thaey have closed up shop and will probably resurface again as another rip off moving company under a new name.  Any advice would be helpful.
