Tuffy Auto Service Centers Don't get your brakes done here! Orlando Florida
At the end of September 2008 I went to Tuffy Auto to have my brakes done. I knew I would need new rotors and brake pads. Little did I know that it would cost me $1,600 to have it done.
Supposedly my a tie rod was coming apart, a ball joint had a crack in it, and my rear brake hose was rusting through. Luckily I have a lifetime warranty on the tie rod and will be reimbursed by Monro Muffler for it.
I had all of this work done. On my way home I smelled a noxious odor and saw smoking coming from the front left tire area. I thought that maybe they just leaked some brake fluid on the metal before putting the brakes together and that it would burn off. It didn't and my car started to shift when I braked.
I took it back the next day and they said that it was the calipers. They were freezing up on me. I asked them why they were doing that when nothing happened before. The mechanic said that when new brakes are put on it can affect old calipers like that. I didn't believe him but now it had to be done.
Before I left they also said that I needed Antifreeze Extender, New Water Pump, Timing belt and a valve cover gasket. This would be an extra $561. I told them not to do anything. I felt like I was being taken for a ride. Turns out I was.
On Nov 7, 2008 I had 3 mechanic shops (Pep Boys, Firestone, Tibbits) check my car to make sure it can make a trip up to New York in December. They found NOTHING wrong. Don't go to Tuffy's EVER!

I was, but no longer am, a Tuffy franchisee. Please keep in mind that most Tuffy locations are owned by local business people. Only a small number are owned by "Tuffy Corporate." The point of this is that the location in Orlando may behave completely differently than the one in Bloomington, IL or in Toledo, OH. In fact, they may even behave completely differently than the one on the other side of Orlando.
