-I believe I have a case against Turnitin

-I am a graduate student in my capstone class for MBA program

-I recently completed much of the work for my graduate course, working diligently related to trying to graduate ahead of further impact from Covid-19 virus

-I typed many rough drafts of papers using Microsoft word on my computer for work, but could not export them because all email sites blocked, as well as Google Docs, or anything I had knowledge of to export/transport files EXCEPT my schools submission portals for class.

-I submitted many drafts, approximately 70 hours-worth of graduate school work, using a submission portal for a previous class that remained open, just to ensure there was a copy of the drafts in case my computer crashed, etc.

-The Turnitin product used by my school then kept capturing this data, without my knowledge, storing it as "used" material

-When I went to turn in final drafts, I was alerted by a professor with an F or 0 on my third submission, stating my Turnitin score was too high

-Baffled, I searched any available clues, and found that the score was created from data matches from my school itself, not outside sources.

- I quickly realized what had happened and attempted to explain to my professor who was giving me an "opportunity to rewrite" my paper. But it was not just one paper, it was approximately 2/3 of a graduate capstone class, including a major “thesis” project.

-I expected a swift and reasonable resolution.

-What has followed has been nothing short of Kafkaesque.

-Inaccessible professor, unempowered advisor staff and a dystopian like faith in the Turnitin tool have combined in what is arguably an unprecedented draconian student experience.

-This should not happen to anyone else...EVER

You screwed yourself

It is amazing that a person going for their MBA can be this clueless.

You come to a PUBLIC site and basically admit that you used your work computer to do your thesis and submitted your papers on the submission portal for a PREVIOUS class.  Yet you are now shocked that they indicated that your work for THIS class isn't original?

Your excuses are many and while I am sure they sound logical to you, each one just shows how you basically did this to yourself and have only yourself to blame.

First while I don't personally know the details of the site, I can just about guarantee that one thing it is not supposed to be used for is a backup device for your coursework(past, current, or future).  Although I do commend you on your reasoning for this, as it is quite original. But if your Master's Thesis was on Fiction, writing this would be a good start. Which is very likely what your professor was thinking as well.

While I also don't know your companies policy on computer use, I don't think it is too far of a stretch to think you knew. That is that they probably would not be too happy with you if they found out you were using your work computer for personal business. How do I know this? Because if you have a computer that has several sites and services locked out, you have an IT Department that configured this. If you were really allowed to use your work computer you could have gone to your IT Department and asked how you can back up documents. Because I can again guarantee you that there are systems in place at your business to do exactly what you wanted to do.   Baffled, I searched any available clues, and found that the score was created from data matches from my school itself, not outside sources. - So you are saying that plagiarism is okay as long as you are plagiarizing someone from your own school?

I am sure that your academic advisor and professors really like that philosophy.   I expected a swift and reasonable resolution. - That is exactly what you got. I don't think it would be too surprising if by you doing this you actually violated a few of your school's academic policies.  Which for many people could lead to being removed from the program. So if the only thing that is happening to you is being required to rewrite your papers you should consider yourself very lucky. If you get them to accept your pages As-Is you should consider yourself VERY lucky and go buy a few lottery tickets while you are on this lucky streak.
