I worked in the clearance department of Tuscan Marketing and i was there a few years. I can understand the issues people had with this and the potential brain washing that took place. In the clearance division you literally got given a big bag or two with all sorts of bits and pieces in it, t-shirts, jackets, manicure sets, clock radios, dancing bunny rabbits, screwdriver sets you name it we had it. We then went out and sold it to anyone, we chose the area we went to, we paid for all travel and it was commision only. I know this sounds stupid and people will wonder why anyone would do it, but the majority of people you get there have no qualifications and it is a good plan when you get told in a few years you could be earning 200,000. Alot happened to me doing this job includin being mugged and being smashed around the head with a baseball bat, but to be honest i actually look back on that time with fondness. Sales is a job you don't need qualifications to do, i do not have any, this type of sales was probably the hardest you could get and it gave me great sales experience to move on in life which i have done now. the issue i have with the whole Cobra Group, DS Max and Tuscan is that as it is commision only, it is down to the staff members to arrange tax payments etc. As mentioned before, most people who work there are (in the clearance division specifically) are not highly educated and most still signed onto the dole. There was no comeback on Tuscan as everyone was a self employed independant dealer.. How many members of staff do you think arranged all the neccesary paperwork to become an independant dealer or kept receipts to claim back against tax??? No help was given to do this. Also as you were an independant dealer, there was no holiday entitlement and you were expected to work 6 days a week in clearance from 7 and mostly i didn't get home till 9 at night. At the end i moved into the credit card division signing people up for credit cars. We would have a meeting on the sunday and then head to where we needed to be the monday morning. Nobody drove at the time so you would have to get from manchester to keele services for example. Monday to Wednesday 7.30 am to 7.30 Pm on the stand, Wednesday evening travel to the next location for example Leeds railway station, get to leeds aroud 1am then wednesday to saturday 7.30am to 7.30pm there, home saturday night then back to the office sunday and do it all again. That is illegal, but then you're an independant dealer arn't you?
