U.C.B. has continuously called family members trying to get in contact with me. They will not answer calls from the finance group that are negotiating our credit problems and persist on calling family members.

I have tried to keep my family out of this, but with U.C.B. calling, they are getting worried and aggravated. They are giving information that is private and I have been informed that they should not even try too contact a third party. I would like this matter cleared up as quick as possible

Creditors can contact family members to leave call back messages if they are unable to get into touch with you...they cannot, however, discuss the reason that they are calling and they certainly cannot discuss debt issues...this is a violation of federal law. I think there maybe a larger issue here with the finance company that you have contacted to settle your debts....If this is one of those "debt settlement" firms...the ones that you pay money to and they offer to settle your debt after a certain amount of time....I think that this may be a problem. Creditors are not obligated to accept any offer by a debt settlement firm and they are entitled to keep up collection calls if they are not being paid. I have a low opinion of debt settlement firms and if this is what you're involved with...I'd cut my losses and get out...I've read too many bad things about them. Debt settlement firms can ruin your credit...they can't do anything that you cannot do yourself. Debt settlement firms operate by deliberately withholding payments to creditors to intentional damage your credit..in order to force creditors into accepting a settlement...Guess what? You don't need to pay anyone to intentionally ruin your credit...you can do this on your own for free by not paying your bills...You can also make your own settlement offers...but your creditors are under no obligation to accept it. Good luck.

Listen, I know that debt can be embarrassing and hard to admit. But the truth is that all of us have hit a rough spot or two in our life times. And what is brought to the ligth can no longer hurt you. UCB and others like them are very aware of how uncomfortable debt is, and use this ruse of contacting family members to put pressure on you to pay. Have you done a debt validation letter yet? Contacted your attorney general's office, the FTC. Please do I know this may be hard, but talk to your family about this. True family will forgive. Everytime UCB contacts your family, have your family members keep a log of the calls and what is being said. Contact a lawyer at the National Consumer Law Center and take all of this information to him (her) and then sue them. Also, I believe your family can sue for harassment also. Check with the lawyer. Good Luck to you B
