I spoke with Mr. Johns today and was promised a certified check for the $137.00 that was charged to my credit card. Mr. Johns was very polite and apologetic on the phone and told me to expect my check by this Friday. I will update again once I receive the check.

When you buy something that says it's a "trial" or "free", and you just pay shipping, watch out. they aren't even trying to make a profit, or trying to see if you like the product, they want your credit card # and that's it. Once they have this, It's like you just gave them the key to your house and they can come in any time and take money. TO AVOID THESE SCAMS: Never buy anything that is a trial or free. Think about it, if the product was so good, they wouldn't be trying to push it in some cheesy magazine or late night television, you'd be clamoring with other people to try to buy the product and they wouldn't need to give you a trial. IF YOU JUST HAVE TO BUY SOMETHING LIKE THIS: Get a credit card that has online "Virtual Account Numbers". These are virtual #'s that map to your credit account, but you set the max limit and expiration date, and it can only be used at one vendor. The user set limit keeps the merchant's from charging more than the $4.95 "shipping and handling". The user set expiration date (with the user set limit) keeps them from charging you for phony subscriptions later, and the fact that it will only work for one merchant means that they can't sell your number to an "affiliate" IF YOU ALREADY GOT STUNG: Call your credit card company and say you lost your card. They'll cancel the # and send you a new one.

Beth, This is David Johns. I have diligently tried to get ahold of you in order to issue a refund. I apologize for any inconvenience up to this point. The problem however is that you have apparently signed up with our company under a different name other than "Beth" in Dayton, OH. Please call my # 1-800-757-1279, and ask for David Johns. I would greatly appreciate your cooperation in allowing me to help right the wrong.

In filing my complaint with the BBB, I discovered 137 other complaints against Ultralife Fitness. There is a whole other string of complaints on this site (www.ripoffreports.com) under Ultralife fitness (no space - as opposed to Ultra Life Fitness). I will have also filed my complaints with the Internet Fraud Complaint Center (http://www.ifccfbi.gov), www.fraud.org, the Federal Trade Commission and a few others by the end of the day today. The State of Utah Department of Commerce was able to provide me with the Incorporation documents for "Image Corporation" who owns www.ultralifefitness.com as well as the names of the principals (owners). There is also a Division of Consumer Protection within the Utah Department of Commerce who investigates consumer complaints. I look forward to speaking with them today as well. Here's what I really just don't get: If Ultralife Fitness had simply cancelled my account and refunded my money as I requested, they could have avoided having to answer to all of these complaints and continued right along, ripping off all the other suckers that fell for their scam after me..... I hope the $137.00 they (so far) have taken from me was worth it... :)

So far I have filed complaints and/or reports with this site, my credit card company and the Better Business Bureau. I am now working to do the same with the FCC and the US Postal Service (Mail Fraud?) and to figure out who at the State of Utah to talk to. I also did some research and found that the company that owns www.ultralifefitness.com is called Image Corporation 857 W South Jordan Parkway Suite 201 South Jordan, Utah 84095 I do not like being stolen from.

After a bit more research, I discovered that the $24.00/month reoccuring charge is, in fact, for access to their "members only" website. What's real funny is that I tried to login to see if I still needed to cancel) using the login and password that they mailed me and it came back "account expired" - despite the fact that they have refused to refund any of their charges, including the $24.00 charge from 8/22/05
