Has the new wave of television shows, made the storage companies get greedy?
In April, 2011 I rented a storage unit from Uncle Bob's Storage (store #275) on Hixson Pike in Chattanooga, Tn.

My online banking showed that a payment for the month of Nov. was returned in Dec.  I called Uncle Bob's to find out why it had been returned, and the gal on the phone told me that unit had been auctioned off, and they had tried to reach me several times by mail.

I had to move out of state, and the post office in Tn had stopped forwarding my mail.  The other options for reaching me were plainly written on the contract. My phone number, and my email address.  Why do they ask for that information on the lease, and not use them.

Payment for Nov. was due the first, but didn't get paid until Nov 30, but the auction was Nov 17th. I thought that you had 30 days before they could auction off your things.

October's payment was late, so at that time I would have needed to pay a late fee.  They got it Oct 11th.  Then Nov. was due the 1st, the auction was before the 30th, on the 17th.

There was a bill passed, SB1293. If I understand, there are three ways to contact someone about their unit. Mail, phone and email.  One simple call or email could have straightened all this out.  One of the reasons for the bill was to help communication between renters and storage company's.

No one communicated with me, and when I asked to speak to the manager of course she wasn't there, and I doubt she will communicate with me anyway. I was not give the opportunity to pay late fees, or do anything else.

Thanks to their way of doing business, I have lost everything, especially the personal possessions, photo's birth certificates, 30 years of family research, and my bibles. When they advertise for these sales, the ask that personal papers be left, and now it's all gone forever. People just don't care, especially when it concerns money.

I live on social security and a small military pension.  It will be hard enough to replace the "stuff" let alone the things I lost that had meaning to me.  I'm heartbroken, a 2 minute call they didn't make has caused me to lose thing it took a lifetime to collect.

Here is is Jan, 2012,  my Oct 2011 payment was returned. My bank tells me that the payment was made in Oct, sent out but the check was never cashed.

According to the bank, it either got lost in the mail, or never cashed.  I did what I was suppose to do, Uncle Bob's storage didn't do what they were suppose to.
