I normally do not check my monthly bank statement; however, something told me to check it (back in November 2010) and I noticed a $24.95 charge I did not recognize.  Thankfully, my bank provides the merchant's phone number on my monthly statements.  I called the number and the person answered the  phone "United Benefit Advantage".  I inquired why I was charged $24.95, the person said that it was through one of their marketing partners who offered me a "free trial" that I did not cancel in time.  I advised the UBA representative that I never authorized a 'free trial' offer for them and the representative did refund me the last 3 months of charges.  I did check my December 2010 statement and I was not charges.  But that does not stop there.  I checked my January and February 2011 statement and was charged again $24.95.  I called the number printed on my bank statement and the caller answered "United Benefit Advantage".  I told the representative that I canceled this service in November so why am I being charged again.  The representative said that they did not charge me, that my bank must have done a "merchant misprint" with their phone number.  Interestingly enough, the UBA representative was able to tell me who was charging me $24.95,  IDP (Identity Theft Protection). I asked if UBA was affiliated and the representative said 'no', because they get accounts/credit card numbers from their affiliated marketing partners...but yet again the UBA representative was able to tell me who was changing me $24.95 without being affiliated to IDP????  I called IDP and got the same speech.  They did cancel my service and refunded my money.    So please check you bank account statements...even if you think the scammer has stopped charging you!
