We built our home through United-Bilt 6 years ago. We were so exited to have a brand new home with no down payment. As each year goes by, the flooring in our home gets worse. It is now unlevel and creaks very badly. It's emabarrasing to have any guests in our home due to the floors being so loud to walk on. We contacted United-Bilt and they said, "Sorry but all warranties have expired. We can give you some advise on how to replace your floor."

Who wants to replace the floors in a 6 year old house. We shouldn't have to. We had a carpenter come by and take a look at our floors and to his amazement, the floors aren't even nailed to the floor joist. I've lived in mobile homes my whole life and they are alot stronger than this house.

That's not the only thing wrong. The sheetrock is cracking throughout the whole house. There are nail heads coming through the walls. The toilet leaks. The sink leaks. The porch railing on the front of the house is falling apart. I would not recommend anyone building a home through this company. We are now stuck with a $750.00 morgtage payment for 24 more years. We were going to sell but the house would not even appraise for what we owe on it. So yes we have been had by this company. We pay our bills and we are good people. We deserve better. For the amount of money we are paying for this house, we could be living in a mansion!!! If this house was a car then it would fit under the Lemon Law.

#2Consumer Comment

It appears the consumer that filed this complaint has had similar quality problems with United-Bilt homes.

Our house that was built by United-Bilt homes that was constructed less than a year ago has major structural and electrical issues.  United-Bilt homes will agree to fix verbally, but won't put it in their written response to the Better Business Bureau.

This is unacceptable for a builder to not resolve major construction issues.

The following link is for the You Tube video where their Regional Construction manager promised to destroy the house to fix the problems with the studs and sheetrock.

Be sure and click the Show more dropdown to compare their response to the Better Business Bureau  with what their Regional construction manager said in the video.

This customer sent us an email that his floors were creaking and that some nails in the subfloor missed the joists. The customer also claimed there was leaking under the back door. The customer did not say anything about rotting porch posts, cracking sheetrock, or toilet leaks. We responded to the customer that all of the warranties had expired, and then asked the customer to give us more detail on the concerns because perhaps we could help resolve them. We did not say we would not come and do any work on the home - we asked for more detail. We explained that the presence of nails showing in the subfloor under the home did not establish that the joist was not nailed, because a carpenter who misses a joist will typically go back and shoot another run of nails, but will not then go back and pull out the nails that missed, but will instead just leave them there, so from beneath, it will look like it is not nailed even though it has been nailed twice. We asked the customer to be specific about the actual concern - the creaking - and to let us know if the flooring was soon to be replaced, because if it was, it would be a simple thing to re-nail at that time. As for the leaky door, that is typically caused by some movement in the threshold adjustment over time, which is a common thing with people stepping over it frequently, and a very simple thing to fix by adjusting the threshold. We asked the customer for more detail regarding the cause, the symptoms, and so forth. The customer did not provide the information we requested and stopped the communication, preferring, it appears, to file a rip-off report. We still have all the emails from this correspondence. We have never refused to come out and inspect the concerns and we are ready to do so even today, though the customer has not followed up with us or responded to our requests for more information. We will contact this customer and arrange an inspection, document the concerns, try to ascertain the causes, and then respond to each concern.
