Unity Van Lines, Inc. DO NOT HIRE UNITY VAN LINES Carlstadt, New Jersey
I mistakenly hired Unity Van Lines, Inc. for an international move from Boston, MA to Auckland, New Zealand. Their initial quote was reasonable. However, the only thing that was supposed to be changed from the quote to the contract was the size of the shipment. Instead, they additionally moved a charge for destination handling charges from an included cost to an exclusion. There was no mention made of this change. I did not notice it in the contract. For this, I just had to pay an additional $1,050.
They also charged an additional $500 because they said that the actual size of my shipment became 20% larger when they had to palletize it. It was nonsense and yet once I was overseas, I could do nothing about it. They said I had to pay it or the shipment would not get sent.
The shipment was quoted as taking 7-9 weeks. Six months later, my goods have finally arrived. So an initial cost of $2,165 has become $3,665 and there is nothing they say I can do about it. Well, sharing my story through as many places as possible is what I can do about it. Please DO NOT HIRE UNITY VAN LINES. You will regret it, as I have.
