Universal Gas & Electric Corporation misled and taken advantage of Southfield Michigan
This company came to my door a few days in a row. Eachtime I told them I was to busy and did not have time to accomadate there presentation, I have two small, energetic children. After the 3rd day of them showing up I thought I would give them the benefit of the doubt and listen to what they had to say. They explained to me being on their program would be very beneficial for our family. That with gas prices on the rise we were about to see a huge increase if we didn't sign up with their locked in rates. I told them that being a single mother of 2 I really could not afford for my gas bill to be raised. The representative told me that the bill would not increase I would just be locked in to my rate. Well they failed to tell me that the rate was almost triple what DTE's rate is. My gas bill went from $85/month to $290/month.
The real kicker is to cancel I had to fax a written letter to the company. Allow 14 days to approve the cancelation. Either pay a $250 cancelation fee or wait to see if I am approved to get the fee waived. But I will still be charged their rates, almost triple my original gas bill, until either the $250 fee is paid or the fee is waived which could take up to 3 billing cycle.
They told me I had 30days to cancel with out a fee, if I had a problem with the service. But it took 2months for the company to present themselves on my bill. over 30days to late.
I feel I was lied to and taken advantage of being a busy single mom. They knew I was vulnerable. Struggling to make ends meet. Busy trying to keep up with the kids and trying to cut my finances anyway I can. And they twisted things around to make me think I would be saving money, just so they could make a buck!
All we want are companies who are honest and tell the whole truth. Not just what they think we want to hear. This is not a fun road for anyone to go down. GOOD LUCK to those of you that are going through the same thing I am.
