Universal Property and Casualty Insurance refuses to honor legitimate claims for a loss! I have been with this company for three years and have paid my premiums, I have never filed a claim until recently when I sustained water damage coming into one of my bedrooms which had soaking wet carpeting and the wall was wet. I did not know where the water was coming from, only that water was seeping in most likely from the outside.

When I first filed the claim, an adjuster came out and inspected the bedroom wall and saw the soaking wet carpeting. He did not seem to care about finding out where the water was coming in from, just took two pictures and stated he would get back to me.

Several weeks later, I received a letter stating that the damage was approximately $2,200.00 but since my deductible was $2,500.00 there was no point in getting the claim processed.

At this point, I noticed the water damage getting worse. I was advised by a friend that I should get the wall opened so that the source of the water leaking in could be discovered and repaired. I called a company to come out and open the wall, they discovered tons of mold and water coming in from an exterior wall. The company told me that my homeowners insurance would cover the damage as clearly this was something that is covered in a homeowner’s policy.

I called Universal Property and Casualty in Fort Lauderdale not once but several times! The lady who answers the phone is rude and will give you the run around! They completely ignored my calls and refuse to help! They are stating that my first claim was closed (even though the water issue has to do with my first attempt in getting resolution) and that I would need to open a new claim.

So I did just that, and NO RESPONSE!!!! I called my insurance agent to see if he could intervene and he said I had to deal directly with Universal Property and Casualty myself!!!! I am 81 years old, I live alone, have mold in my house which is making me sick and Universal Property and Casualty is aware of this and they refuse to help! They keep giving me the run around and will not send an adjuster out to my home. In the meantime I have paid three full years of premiums and have property insurance from a company who refuses to help a senior citizen living alone. They are horrible and clearly are in business to rip off consumers!

How they are still open for business is beyond me, why hasn’t the state of Florida's Insurance Commissioners shut them down!!! I live on a fixed income and cannot afford the repairs out of my pocket, and the whole point is I have INSURANCE, I should not need to pay for repairs myself as I have insurance!!!

D not do business with Universal Property and Casualty, they are horrible and will do nothing except take your money!!! In the meantime, I am living with mold and slowly getting sicker from the mold in my house, I do not know where to turn!
